Finished Season 1. I planned to drop this after chapter 17 as I had lost interest. It's a really slow start, but I skimmed to see Rogers' scenes. I'm glad I did. Chapter 18 is when the plot started to move forward. The mystery became easier to follow.
Before Chapter 18
It was mostly Richelle caretaking for the twins. She's more of a nanny to them than a tutor. Penny and Niro are cute and less annoying than most child characters, but I wasn't interested in them.
Richelle finds a letter with rules to survive the year at Rose Mansion. This is probably the most interesting part of the manhwa for me. Unfortunately, it's executed in a repetitive way. Richelle encounters something scary and her panic extends the entire chapter before she remembers the rules and escapes. But after Chapter 18, the letter began to function as clues.
Because there are no romantic interactions, a strong heroine and intriguing plot are mandatory. This is why I considered dropping. Richelle is moody and not much smarter than your typical heroine. Her internal thoughts kept breaking up the scene and I wanted her to respond more directly. She becomes much more likeable after Chapter 18. I was annoyed by her guardedness and caution around Rogers, but she has good reason not to trust him. However, because of this, there aren't many interactions between them.
After Chapter 18
I can't write too much without posting spoilers, but it's worth pushing through. After Richelle's conversation with Rogers, she begins to open up more and becomes curious about the Otis family. She's a kind girl who's concerned for the children and resolves to help them escape.
This is where the story begins to have clear plot lines and use the clues found in the letter. There are also some helpful refreshers in case you forget anything. Rogers is the main antagonist and I was happy to see more of him. He's seductive, friendly and suspicious as hell.
Rating
This was a fun read. I'm not sure why this is tagged as romance, but it's not. I came after reading How to Survive as a Maid in a Horror Game. This series takes itself much more seriously, and has a slower pace. I would recommend this if you like seeing a family mystery unravel and don't mind the lack of romance. Also, don't fall for Rogers 😉
