Peak Demon Hunter Story

Really well-written and illustrated. Not surprising as it was based on a great light novel. Japanese occultism with historical and supernatural elements. First few chapters were a bit rough, that's why you hear all these virgins crying about NTR, but it's ultimately inconsequential to the story. The manga adaptation kinda rushed the intro to get to the good stuff early. Just to clarify, MC's childhood friend and love interest was made to wed someone else out of "duty" and MC basically gave up on her for the same silly reason. It's a tragic situation but not unheard of in ancient times. Doesn't matter because demons get involved and finish the MC's tragic backstory by killing everyone and making MC's sister a vengeful future super demon. This ain't a romantic comedy, you bozos. So MC has to stay alive until his sister awakens in about 170 years to stop her. The story covers that 170 years of the MC wandering Japan as a demon hunter, from the late 1800s to modern times. Seriously gourmet shit for any historical/samurai fans. Doubly so for Japan occultism enthusiasts like myself. Each demon hunting case is well written and memorable, making the manga more like a compilation of short stories with connecting elements. Current manga is still an adaptation of the light novel volumes set in the Edo period (volumes 1-4). There's also arcs set in Meiji, Taisho, Showa and Heisen. MC is likable and you get to see his character development across literal eras: from a stubborn, naive and duty-obsessed kid to a vengeful, demon-hunting ronin to a pretty chill modern day high schooler.

Needs a tragedy tag, as well as NTR.

This.... is complicated. I also hate it, because it's stupid people doing stupid things, and NTR. And yet it's also pretty damn good quality, and there are a bunch of feels. Too bad I don't care, because it's, as mentioned, all about tragedy, nearly all of which is brought about by terrible decisions. The problem with me just giving it a 1 rating and moving on is that all the stupid decisions are at least internally consistent, with literally all the problems originating from one major manipulator who can see the future making use of everyone's lack of communication. Had that one manipulator not showed up, there would've been drama but things would've worked out ok. Instead, it turned into a massive mess with an absolutely silly bodycount.

So yeah, I can see the quality being rated as being somewhat high, but I really don't care because it's based on trash premises. Honestly if you're in the mood for melodrama and stupid people making terrible decisions and life sucking, then give it a shot, because you'll probably enjoy it. As mentioned, the quality is 'good'.

But if you don't like NTR and such, then just avoid it entirely. Not even worth starting the first few chapters because it only goes downhilll from there. Theoretically I might check out the last few chapters once it's completed to see if I read it, but frankly no way until then.
