I must have liked the story a lot

--because I rated it a 10.
I've read a fair share of shounen-ai and YAOI and I certainly do not like a manga just because of the lack of sex. I don't rate a manga higher just because it's sex-less. When I read this I just felt it was better than other BL I've read; when you read tons of BL stories, you soon realize that some are worth your time while others are garbage. In this case, I liked the simplicity of the story and I seriously got butterflies in my stomach when I read it. We all have different taste, I guess. I really love those schmoopy & light stories whereas others enjoy those deep and angsty ones.
This manga is full of cliques (and the author said so too), but it's written/drawn in a way that makes it interesting; it's pure and innocent which I enjoyed a lot. I too thought it was a realistic take on a innocent and happy love even though I know that RL is not always unicorns and rainbows, but that's okay. I certainly don't read BL to see boys falling in love with straight boys and then getting their heart broken.

i believe that the author Achieved everything that is said in the afterword, for me at least. I never thought that cliché was bad if it was well made, and this story is like that, it was so simple and at the same time for the smallest yet sweetest parts my heart throbbed, really lol. Nice read

I can´t describe how much I´m in love with Nakamura-senseis art style. It´s so beautiful and got such an Orginal look to it.
This Manga is so innocent and Sweet and has this really heartwarming feeling to it. Although the plot can be considerd a cliché, I enjoyed the story because the characters was so likeable and innocent that it made me want to read more and more. I would describe this manga as a refreshing summer morning. I´m really looking forward for the Sequel of this Manga, because it definitly has more potential to grow, both as a Shounenai and Yaoi.
I think the reason most people find this manga good because it´s very Simple and has a very nice flow to it.

In this lovely, pure and poetic manga Asumiko Nakamura perfectly depicts young love and its everyday special moments. Sweet without being cheesy and simple but definitely not boring, this manga truly is a little gem. The plot is exquisitely narrated, also thanks to a peculiar art, whose elegant lines reminded me of Art Nouveau. The main characters are likeable and well-constructed. I feel like anyone could enjoy this, not only romance or yaoi fans. If you like slice-of-life works and slow romance, though, then you will definitely love this manga.
To those asserting this is clichéd... A manga shouldn't necessarily tell extraordinary, interesting, super original things in order to be good. Heck I've read manga dealing with things unheard-of, yet they still managed to be stereotyped and overall trashy. Not original doesn't automatically mean clichéd.
Doukyuusei can be read as a stand-alone, but to fully appreciate this story you should read Sotsugyousei and O.B, its sequels, which will reveal more about the characters.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion that's why everyone's ratings is different. If you don't understand why the ratings are high, it's because everyone's taste is different. Just for the people who are thinking 'Wtf? I don't understand what's with all these high ratings?!'
I actually really love this story, it has something unique to it, I don't really think it's THAT cliche. XD In my opinion, there's this development that occurs between these two. All the characters are very likeable. I love Hara sensei's unrequited love, it made me sad, but that is sort of remedied in the spin-off. Anyways, Nakamura Asumiko is a great BL mangaka/author. I enjoy all her other non-BL stories as well.

The art really matches this sort of plot: both very simplistic. You simply have two boys that become close and fall in love. The characters are so cute in their personality too!
One boy just shouts out, surprised, "I think I have a crush on you!" It seems to childish and so innocent. And although they do mention that they are boys, they don't let it get in the way of their feelings. Both characters are also pretty shy, although one does make most of the moves. I really really like it so far and art just makes it even more memorable.

A cliche but a sincere cliche. I liked everything about it! I will not disregard the fact that it felt like the story could've been more than it was, if you shake it up a bit and flesh it all out, but I feel that Nakamura-sensei made it like that so we DO actually feel the bottled-up soda pop of love that Kusakabe and Sajou-kun are experiencing.
I swear, at the end of the manga, I felt like my chest was about to burst from the acid reflex I got from reading this manga (>_<) b(>w<)d

This is completely to my taste. It has a wonderful sense of humor with beautiful art and the love is so innocent and bittersweet. All the characters feel so life-like and lovable.
The way Nakamura Asumiko descirbes it herself is the perfect way:
"I wanted to really go back to basics and write a story that is so pure and innocent and as slow and vexing as it can be."

as beautiful as always, in Nakamura-sensei's style. you probaly can't not find yaoi in her works (or maybe you can but i can't ) but if you want to read something warm and peaceful, go for Doukyuusei.
her art is unique, it might be a little hard to accept at first but when you get used to it you'll see nothing but good =))
only talk about Doukyuusei, yep, you might think it's just some other shounen-ai manga but no, in fact it's really deep and interesting.
i've read the whole volume 1 and now dying in waiting for it.
yeah, highly recommend this one.

It is one of my all time favorite manga.
Like your first love.
This one of those BL manga were you love it for the story and not for the sex.
I highly recommend this.
