Wolf Guy - Ookami no Monshou

Description

Ms. Aoshika is not only divorced, but an underappreciated teacher at her job. But one drunken mishap leads her to witness firsthand the brutal assault and murder of a young man. However, after fainting, she awakens to discover that all of the assailants have been seriously wounded.
And to her further surprise, the next day she discovers that not only is the young man, Akira, she met the night before alive, but he is now her new transfer student.

This manga is devoid of any substance whatsoever. The plot is shallow. The sub-plots are shallow. Any conflicts between the characters are no more than senseless brouhahas over pride and ego. The incessant brandishing of one's potency and machismo is corny and sensationalized. The protagonist's "deep" and masked-with-stoicism sorrow is trite. The mangakas largely use their near-unmatched artistic talents to dramatically glorify violence and gore, and to intricatly chisel the malevolent grimaces of characters' faces.

And I love it. It is among the foremost of releases I anticipate every week.

But if one is so grave and somber of a fellow to take all of the above so damn seriously, then they best stay far, far away from this manga.

Kinda cool

It's not the greatest manga I've ever read... But it's got good art, good action scenes, but a rather stupid story. His conditional invincibility and standoffish attitude is kinda annoying. The teacher's humongous boobs are too big (yes it's possible). Some of the characters are too annoyingly unrealistic.

So yeah, to sum it up; the plot is awful. The characters are so-so. Inugami (main character) would be cool if he wasn't invincible a la superman mode half the time. The art is great. Some scenes are great.

It's still a fun read if you don't mind the plot etc though~

i am so tired of people bitching and moaning about a manga's originality. Everything has been done before, everything, if an idea hasn't been done before its because its a bad idea.
ex:
This manga has werewolves in it, how unoriginal, it is just copying that-one-werewolf-manga. This manga takes place at school, stop copying GTO mr. author. I saw a gun in this manga, stop being copying james bond and do something original.

also, yeah there is a lot of sex and violence in this manga, but it is an adult manga, in the adult world we are surrounded by sex and violence. Try to think of a week where you went without one or the other, it was probably a god damn boring week.

ahhh, thats enough of a rant. But yeah, bottom line, this manga is good, and the characters have real emotions and motivations. The main character is a badass, and there is a reason behind the way he acts. Same with the teacher.

Like many others have already stated, this manga isn't original. It has nothing new to offer, even after 61 chapters. And in case some people are hopeful that the plot will improve and get more complicated... no, it doesn't really. The plot pretty much boils down to: Boy is immortal werewolf that gets into a bunch of fights with school delinquents. Oh, and his ridiculously big-boobed teacher (who was raped) is hot for him. The entire story seems to be driven entirely by gratuitous violence and sex. I have no problem with sex and violence in a Seinen story, as long as it's actually RELEVENT to the plot and advances the story. But a lot of it in this one is pure fan disservice (for example, the HORRIBLE masturbation scene for rat boy - what the heck was that all about?!).

And a lot of problems and conflict that come about in the story are ridiculous, and require an unbelievable amount of suspension of disbelief. Examples include: Inugami lamenting about how violent and disgusting humans are, and how much he hates them... only for him to promptly attend a school filled with psychotic delinquents. He constantly gets annoyed about troublesome fights and acts like he wants to play it low key... yet he keeps insulting the delinquents and picking fights. It also makes no sense why he keeps smugly showing off his superhuman werewolf powers to everyone and their kid brother. And that's saying nothing about how over-the-top the villains are. Heck, Inugami's main adversary, Haguro, is a 16-17 year old Yakuza (that looks like a bizarre mix between Kisame from Naruto and The Joker) that goes around randomly maiming and raping his minions. Sometimes it's perfectly fine to be over-the-top and ridiculous. But the story just takes itself WAY too seriously, and has such an emo, wangsty feel about it.

30-odd chapters in, and I'm still not seeing a plot. I think it's meant to be an action manga, but so far we've only run into middle school bullies that even the main character doesn't take seriously enough to bother fighting.

On top of that, we're not really seeing character development. The main character can pretty much be defined by "Wolf pride"/"I hate humans" with the exception of his growing feelings for his teacher, who so far has near-wholly been defined by sex, whether that's her past rape, her failed marriage due to that rape, or her status as an object of lust for most of the male characters. Well, that's not really fair; sometimes she's a damsel-in-distress, instead. The rest of the supporting cast are cyphers and seem pretty irrelevant so far.

That said, I'm still hopeful. There are a couple minor characters that look like they have potential, and it looks like the ridiculous school bully arc is wrapping up soon. Once that's done, we'll hopefully see the real conflict, whatever that'll be, and I'll be able to get a better feel for the manga. The art's pretty good. I may reevaluate later.

So the Tabata/Yuuko duo team up for another manga. Despite being a manga with decent potential, there's still much room for improvement, as the plot goes relatively slowly in my opinion, and the typical strong guy falls in love feel reading into it. The series is overshadowed by one of the earlier series that the pair wrote known as akumetsu. Although the plot isn't as deep as akumetsu, the artwork is just as stunning.

Silly Sex Eyes

It's rather difficult to assess Wolf Guy correctly. The writing is about on level with a teenage fanfiction writer complete with terrible captions telling us the most obvious of details. Yet the artwork is so aesthetically pleasing in its character designs. It's jarring how advance the art is in comparison to the dialogue that it seems like a re-edited spoofing of an actually decent manga. Constant action captions in the third person don't help either.

The female lead is milquetoast(always wanted to use that word) mid-twenties teacher who may have well been cut out of a hentai series considering how she seemly invites rape. The main character is no better, he's the creation of a writer who doesn't understand how to create a good anti-hero. So he piles on the hero cheap traits of grimdark passion and angst to make him seem more layered. The outcome is laughable. The rest of characters hardly matter, the cowardly principal, the useless idealists, the bad guys, all are there to extol how great the main character is. Inugami is a shameless mary sue.

Wolf Guy is polarizing manga. I wish the artist would team up with someone who could write well but for now I rather enjoy the ridiculous action scenes as long as I ignore the plot.

I can't seem to find the main reason of why I like this manga so much. It's just so addictive. At first, I didn't think a manga based on werewolves would work, but this totally does. It's brutal with its violence, over the top sometimes but it just fits into a perfect whole.

Skimming through most of the comments, it looks like a love or hate situation here. And I have to agree. WGWC is very much a series you either end up liking or end up hating. Of course most people do hold a middle ground and just don't care for it, however one fatal flaw that people seem to possess over this manga is the inability to realize it's only been scanlated to chapter 26.

Chapter 26 is nothing. It's a very small number in the lieu of manga chapters of many other series. Who knows? It may get more complex, things might happen after a chapter hits a certain mark. (For example, Katekyo Hitman Reborn didn't gain any real footing in actual plot till about 50-70 chapters) We don't know that. But for what it's worth and as far as they've gotten... I'd say WGWC has delivered to me. The art style, I really like. It's boldness and texture is something I generally don't read and it felt refreshing for someone like me.

Sure, the story isn't original. But what story is nowadays? Everything is almost a retelling of something. It's very hard to be completely original in these days. It is a futile fight. As for maturity level? I think the "seinen" label is mainly due to the graphic violence and nudity. Cause let's face it, this is too graphic to be considered as "shounen" as series like Bleach or Naruto. I don't think mothers would want their children reading about a teacher getting raped.

As for the werewolf situation. I do agree that nothing can really beat Wolf's Rain. But I find the way Yugo/Tabata are handling it isn't bad. In fact, I kind of like it. It looks like a typical werewolf and we don't see many manga about werewolves. And most werewolf stuff outside of anime/manga is romance. Granted, I think romance may become a side element to this story (who doesn't feel the chemistry brewing between Ingami and Aoshika?[which gets an A+ for me, as I adore teacher/student stories as well]), but it's nice to see more werewolf stuff that isn't purple prose, Hollywood horror, or pre-teen novel drivel.

Character wise, yeah, it's lacking. But I personally have really enjoyed Akira's proud personality and the way Ms.Aoshika carries herself. I find myself interesting in how things will pan out for everyone and how the gangs will finally fall (which I'm sure will happen).

All in all, this manga can be enjoyed by anyone who gives it a chance. But don't be surprised for a disappointment if you're going in to it with the mindset of having something that will compliment Berserk or set your brain ablaze like Monster.

Waste of Time

This series makes wild uproar because of the apparent lack of werewolves in anime/manga. But if this as the manga depicts is what a werewolf should be like, it's a superficial and laughable creature.

I wish that I could just sum up what I think about this manga in one word seeing as readers are entranced by empty words such as "amazing", "cool", "awesome", etc. but I just couldn't bear myself to join the pack (no pun intended).

I'm sorry but this manga is a rip-off. A huge disappointment, nothing but a failed presumptuous gimmick. The average rating and the rave reviews in here are misleading. Other than the amusing beatings, slashing, kicking, slamming, and whatnot that were received by the Wolf Guy, there's little to chew on. I'm left with the characters--both protagonists and antagonists--to save me from the weak plot but they, too, are hopeless. They have little to no redeeming qualities: Wolf Guy might be mystified but smug, the female teacher is dull, and the rest of the characters are third-rate.

I know, why would I expect realism in my manga, or fiction for that matter? However, it's terribly unfair to compare this manga with Until Death Do Us Part, etc. even when the latter also has surrealism in its plot. Because as far as I know, UDDUP characters are its driving force. They have their own idiosyncrasies to look out for and to relate to whereas this manga hasn't anyone or anything for that matter.

Wolfen Crest's storyline is frivolous, which wouldn't be a problem if the characters weren't so "fake". By that I mean, there must be some paradoxes within the characters. This series' characters are so formulaic and bland that it's hard to care if any of them die of shock, ravaged by humans or ripped apart by ravenous creatures that come out of nowhere. I like both realism and supernatural in my fiction but this has neither an ounce of realism nor the excitement of supernatural. For a series about the mysticalities that are werewolves, it proves to be strangely less mysterious and more predictable as it goes on.

This series might appeal to the general or the younger masses, but it's more apt to say that it is for the "less sophisticated readers" who want a series to pass time and enjoy without having the need to digest anything. Because the only thing that will keep your attention to this manga is the artwork and fanservice. This is probably what swayed most of the readers to this inane series in the first place.

tl;dr: Waste of my time.
