Bambi to Dhole

Description

Yukimi is her real name but everyone calls her Bambi. She is the student discipline committee member who locks students out of the school if they're a minute late, but sneaks cigarette breaks on the roof. Lone wolf (Dhole, Asiatic wild dog) transfer student Tetsu (everyone pronounces it Tooru) Nagasawa hops the fence after she locks it and breaks her cigarette in half when he finds her on the roof, but he's a super nice guy to a mother and baby on the train. Bambi already has a boyfriend but will the wolf steal her heart?

I'd say it's among the best romance stories I read recently.

Good character development, meaningful interaction, no stupid/silly/unnecessary characters. What I like the most is how the author created meaningful conversations and connection between characters. The readers can see how they grow, how their minds change throughout the story.

The main cp understand each other, help each other in important turns in their lives, to become happier and live more fully. What more can I ask for a romantic rls?

It's not only romance, but also family love, how to overcome past traumas etc. that were solved beautifully here.

The art is neat and clean, easy for the eyes.

The ending is super satisfying too (unlike many lengthy shoujo I read recently that put readers through hell only to arrive at a shitty open ending)

If only this manga were longer, otherwise I've got nothing to complaint.

I love certain mangas for many different reasons, but this one I love for a very personal reason, and I would have to say it’s one of my favorites. The romance is perfectly paced, so that you can really feel the connection that the two main characters develop over time.

You see how much the characters grow, and how much they were holding themselves back in the beginning. Watching them realize this and come to terms with it is incredibly beautiful to watch.

Yukimi’s story hits very close to home for me, so much so that when her childhood and her insecurities were revealed and she cried with Tetsu for the first time, I cried with her.

There are so many platonic sweet scenes between these two, that when you can finally start to see something more grow, it makes sense. There is no rush.

I also love that it is just 5 volumes, it’s the perfect amount of time for the story to unravel and to get a beautiful ending with our main protagonists, there is no point in time where you feel that the story has overstayed its welcome.

Maybe I’m giving this a 10/10 because of how personal it feels to me, but to me it’s a must read.

The story feels genuine, honest and relatable. The author really takes time to show the journeys of the characters and connect the events tightly together.

The characters, like some of the comments before me, are great treats as far as characteristic buildings and personal developments go. The two main characters are without doubt some of the most forthright people I've met in mangas. You know how Japanese manga characters usually hide things, oppress their feelings and miscommunicate because of these two self-created obstacles. Here, the author breaks all those for transparency. For me, this is extremely important for self-growth - speaking from real life experiences - because you have to reflect, to see for yourself because you're curious of how to become more and better, that you can make your choices, be responsible and move forward. It's amazing how this work unfolds all these without a single second of feeling forced. And because both main characters are introspective themselves - i.e. keeping things to themselves a lot - that it makes senses and is rational all-the-while keeping all the emotions flow naturally. Wow, the more I think about it, the stronger I feel about how good a story-teller author-san is and what sorts of experience she has been through to create this 5-volume yet intricate story. Speaking of emotions, the author made sure that when she presents a character in dark light, they'd anger us (to certain extends). What I appreciate most is the immense growth for almost all characters, major and minor, how they are really open-minded and care for each other and just all-around trying to be better versions of themselves and for others. Whoops! Here I repeat my point!

The art is good. It's expressive enough. It's not the more bling-bling, pretty shoujo art. And it's effective because the story truly shines through it.

Of course, there are some of the funniest moments that are just out-of-nowhere. Then for the shoujo lovers, there will be some dramatic scenes, even some cliché stuff that even the author makes fun of (in omakes evidently). Still, it's like life, we get fluffy moments and fun moments and crazy moments too.

I HIGHLY RECOMMENT THIS WORK!

i absolutely LOVEVED this manga. it had happy moments and sad moments and that's what i loved about it. (it also had some comedy which i liked) at first i really didn't like yukimi. i hated how fake she was and how she didn't tell her friends anything. but the more i started to read deaper i started to understand her feelings a bit. it was a real shocker when tetsu was a father. at first i didn't really like that. i thought it didn't "suit" the story. but once again the more i read i changed my mind. the story is very mature and i wasn't expecting it at all but am glad i read the manga. for some reason it really reminded me of We Were There by Yuki Obata. mabey because of the whole dead-lover situation.
anyhow,
I really liked this manga alot and i most definitely recommend.

I’m a little surprised to see there’s only 104votes (at the time of this comment at 2019june) for this series, because this is an exceptional manga. It’s so good I want it to get more votes and reviews!

How to describe a summary of the series... contrary to what people might think, just because it’s (1) shoujo, (2) tagged romance and (3) it’s about two people, a boy and a girl, it’s not actually about just about romance. In fact, it’ll be more accurate to say it’s not a romance manga.. it’s more of a “growing up, overcoming fears and maturity” story. The romance was just a big plus on the side. It’s realistic and believable. This was mostly written from the female leads POV, but there are huge growth and personal development for both leads. They help each other indirectly in a way, their weaknesses and strengths a good match for each other, enough to better themselves slowly inch by inch. It’s a serious story that tackles big things, but it still also have a fair share of normal interaction and laugh out loud moments between leads and the side characters, more than enough not let the heavy main issues/topic of the story drag the flow too much into a depressive state.

This is a very well written piece of work... everything felt like it was planned ahead of time, and there was not much ‘filler’ content... in fact, I’d say it was very condensed, a lot of stuff happening in just one chapter. The pacing and execution was excellent, almost nothing felt out of place and things went along smoothly. If there was anything I would complain about, it would be (1) the male lead was absurdly mature for his age (you definitely won’t find a guy like him just anywhere) (2) would’ve liked a bit more panels that didn’t actually involve the male lead, maybe panels of her relationship with her friends or other classmates, or her family to show a better picture of how she was at there beginning. Because it made it seem like the female lead was chasing or obsessed w male lead at the start when she still hasn’t really fallen in love with him. But these are not big issues, these are actually just small nitpicks, something that for me would’ve made the manga really perfect 🙂

Very recommended for people who love reading growth stories & slow but steady development of strong relationships, unaccompanied with the gimmicks that plague formulaic shoujo romance. Not for people who are looking for fluff or light read... there are other excellent titles for those, it’s just that this is not one of them 🙂

I love how the main lead has her flaws and is trying to find herself. The mangaka goes in depth with the characters making it a great story.
It's different from any other shoujo mangas.

Shoujo with heart - made me cry

This is one of the more self-reflective shoujos out there. The female protagonist is very aware of how she hides behind masks, but that is also because she is confused about who she really is - and there is a very good backstory to that which made me cry even on the 3rd chapter. The male lead is rather not someone you expect to see in real life for someone of his age.

I would agree with rafaluvika's review, in that sometimes, a person's selfish and foolish actions can so easily change the lives of young and impressionable minds around her/him. Such is the case with

The 25-yr childhood friend of the male protagonist, who had a weak heart but wanted a child and convinced him, a middle-schooler, to help her conceive a child then proceeded to die after her son's birth, and her son might not even be his! It was an act of utmost selfishness and changed his life forever - made him swear that he'll love only one person in the world, and hurt the dear, beloved female protagonist. How irresponsible..how can she give such a burden to a middle-schooler?! . From my personal background I emphasize with the female protagonist especially, so I'm simply waiting for the happiness to come in this story.

i really like this manga! at first i thought this is just like the other manga but i was completely wrong. the mangaka is really good at bring the "human" in her/his characters, both of the main characters have their own flaws but that was make this manga is enjoyable to read. not your typical shoujo indeed.

ps: this is a really BIG SPOILER, don't read it if you don't want to spoil the ending

i can't help but thinking sachi, the ex girfriend of male mc, was selfish. i can understand if she wants to live or experiencing everything in her life, but asked a middle school boy to be the father of her child? not to say, she did it with mc not long after she broke up with her bf that can bring the doubt who is the father actually. she is freaking 25 for god sake. and in the end of her life ask that middle school boy to keep her child while this boy himself still a kid. sigh, but luckily both of the mc met and help each other to heal their own trauma.

Very different from other shoujos

I really like everything isn't perfect in this manga. The female lead is strong and smart, but she has enough weaknesses to feel realistic and relatable. Honestly, I think that the male lead has a little too much baggage, but I'm interested to see how the manga progresses. This manga also has an emotional impact. Unlike some mangas that completely skip over or minimize emotional turmoil, this one makes you feel the female lead's emotions.
