Description

The Great Tokyo Earthquake. Ten years ago, it destroyed lives as it tore buildings asunder. Among those who lived through the disaster was Ganta Igarashi, now a middle school student finally getting a footing in his own life... that is, until the day the 'Red Man' appears at his school and turns his world upside down again. Ganta's entire class is brutally murdered, and although innocent of the crime, Ganta is sentenced to death and sent to the bizarre prison known as 'Deadman Wonderland.' There, a brutal game of survival begins, where Ganta must discover the truth behind his classmates' murder.
Can Ganta break out of Deadman Wonderland... or will it break him first?

I love this manga. It's in some ways very cliché in the sense that the main character is your typical weak character that becomes strong whenever his friends are threatened or at just the right time. The type of untapped potential that becomes active "when it really matters", but is otherwise very timid but caring.

Either way, I can definitely recommend this manga. It's completely random and comes with a rather simple dialogue, but with interesting story elements and characters. Although some of their behavior is -completely- out of whack... that's part of what makes it interesting 🙂

Also it's well drawn with cool and detailed action scenes.

edit: the plot repeats itself. that pretty much makes it endless. hm.

i don't hate on drippy blood and graphic gore, but the set-up looked like too much effort. i finished the available chapters in one go this morning, then joined here to pledge with the itz-dark-yet-fresh mob. (sounds like a food advert for after the nuclear holocaust, ne?) plot? plot holes? whatever, let the mangaka do whatever. each chapter feels like a prezzie, so "whatever" must be working. i'll follow to the end and not miss a single dark-yet-fresh moment. snap. now i'm off to find this eureka7.

Can I say first of all, that I am not crazy about this series. I'm not eager for another chapter but I want moreee. I can't explain what draws me in about this series - that it's poignant but light at the same time(?). I actually love this series and I really recommend people to read this series and expect something subtly amazing. 🙂

This is a tight manga. Such a dark and twisted story with awesome art and a fresh form of "abilities."
Like action, blood, gore, tragedy? Then this is a manga that you must check out first hand.
This manga is done by the same author and artist from eureka seven also (14 year old main char with mysterious cute chick again 😀 )

It's a really good manga. The art is nice, and it's not all about violence. The characters are likeable and it starts off in a confusing way, but it makes you want to read more to see whats going to happen.

Hmmm... it's got potential to become a rather interesting series if it plays its' cards right. Will it be able to breath life into a bunch of cliches or will it turn into yet another dragged-out serialisation? So far, the direction of this series seems to swing from 1 direction to another.

What I really liked: the protagonist and some of the characters, the craziness of this manga(on the level of certain other mangaka), the art(character designs, the mecha designs and even part of the prison levels were kinda cool), that it's grim and gritty yet dosed with a pinch of light-heartedness so things are fairly balanced, the secrets everyone seems to hold and how almost everyone really struggles to form some sort of power relation with one another, the twists and mysteries, etc.

What I really disliked: the amount of cast members(important and lesser members, those who've appeared and those who haven't) which will likely mean limited characterisation or even recycled characters and dragged-out tournament fights unless the manga creators can get it right(tough if you're trying to go for a mostly fighting manga unless you veer from that direction or can handle it). And too much random stuff in every odd chapter instead of building on the plot, character and action layers bit by bit and that the rapid pacing in the earlier chapters is starting to slow a darn lot.

So, I'll probably pick up this series again in a while's time to see if it crash-landed or headed for a round of smooth sailing. And it's worth checking out just for the fun of it.

I mean this manga is violent, but I didn't think it was overly violent. A violence towards an artistic aesthetic extent. Obviously, they'll be cliche's and certain things unexplained... this is, fiction, after all (to those bashing the manga already) and the girl poppin' here and there just adds to her air of mystery (which is what the manga artists clearly intended). I found the story to be elaborately developed but in a good sense, for their was little lack of confusion. So far, it's all a matter of taste... and I find this story to be more than just a futuristic retelling of gladiator's killing another; there's an essence of an allegory to symbolize humanity, maybe? or maybe I'm reading too much into it. But give it a try if this is your thing, you'll enjoy it!--- even if it is cliche in the world of sci fi manga.

read all 12 chapters at once........ Man, this manga is FUCKED UP, and I LOVE it. As I read further, my "this is sick" reactions became increasingly common. But that's good, because I love the blood, the twisted-ness of the characters, AND the girls with multiple-personality disorder.

This is excellent everything about it so far is great its on of my faverates out at the moment and cant wait to see what happens next in the series's.
Only thing lacking is ecchi parts but even without this is brilliant.

Sure, this game has a few plotholes, but if you havn't read it all you can't really complain about the "randomness" of it. I was slightly annoyed by the sudden appearance (and disappearance) of the girl at the beginning, but it adds up later on.

All I can say is that the awesome setting, the likable and strange characters and the eerie grotesqueness was JUST what I needed for the moment. Thus, I will rate it 10/10 but have full understanding for people who doesn't rate it high at all. When it comes to series like this, it's all about taste.
