This review is based on the tappytoons version.
Whoaaaa
They managed to capture my attention in 2 chapters, made me fall in love with the characters in 4, then shattered my heart in the 5th.
So good so far. The art is breathtakingly beautiful, the translations in the tappy version is really good! Though some word choices could be better. At least the grammar and speech flows well. (The polite speech you'd expect is a bit too slack. It's still not terrible to read though! And sound effect choices could be better.) And I'm super stoked to see how this plays out. It's definitely one of those "uphill battle" kind of stories, but I'm cheering for the main character so far! Will write more as I read more chapters.
Edit: 25 ch in and the story is really good. Palace politics with an Egyptian twist. The characters are interesting and they sprinkle just a bit of BL to keep readers in it for the romance. But the translation and editing!!! It's so hard for me to concentrate whenever I see something like "don't let him bug you" or "this joint" or "hanging out" or "let's bounce" it just kills it for me. It's fine if the MC says it, and even moderately acceptable for the red hair character since his voice is far more casual, but just seeing one of the royals or someone who should be speaking politely say these things really kicks me out of the experience. The character voices are just badly portrayed. That being said, spelling and grammar is fine though, so that's a leg up over...some Chinese translated titles I've seen.......
Either way, these things really bother me when they're officially translated. I wish they listed the localization team so I can send some feedback over... :(
Update: translations improved at ~ch 69, but now it's the lettering... Oh boy those bubbles are cramped with ugly overly big font @_@ but it's fine! At least the writing is better.
The story! Wow it's got me at the edge of my seat most of the time. Love seeing the top get jealous and love how the bottom can be a bit sexy and sly sometimes. The story itself is really good, with a sprinkle of magic and mystery. The characters are well written too. I love how mentally strong the bottom is and how fragile the top can be. Overall, loving it. It is a super slow burn though, as most Chinese manhua goes, but the story is very intriguing. 10/10 for the story alone.
Update: I love the lovey dovey relationship the two develop. And season three ends really nicely. I can't wait to see more of this title! I can't believe I've been sleeping on this one for so long. It has drama, action, comedy, romance... And the art is a 50/10. Now that I'm caught up, I'll just have to wait until we get updated.
