I don't read a lot of yuri because so much of it feels voyeuristic and gross since a lot of it is written for men, but this feels like it was written /for/ me by someone who's like me. Every character feels distinct and even though they're exaggerated, they all feel like a real kind of person who exists, even for more over the top characters like Fuji. To me each character represents a different stage that young wlw go through that's made unique by the character's own traits. You've got the ones with a fixation on an older woman mentor/authority figure, the ones still figuring out friendship and their relationships aside from romantic ones and learning the differences and overlap, the one who knows she's in love with her best friend but is trying to be okay with just being friends and staying at her side. Every character is engaging and I'm never disappointed when the story moves away from one group to focus on another.
And it's not just good on the merit of "it's gay," it's also just an incredibly funny and visually stunning manga. Ningiyau's expressions are some of the best I've ever seen and even for simpler expressions, they're executed incredibly well. Every visual element serves its role very well and I never feel like I'm lost on the page, which is something that I notice happens to me even in really good manga, like My Hero Academia. The dialogue feels genuine and flows well. I hope School Zone Girls gets the audience I think it deserves.

It gets so much better over time

It starts off as a very goofy and absurd comedy with 5–10 page, episodic chapters with relatively few plot threads between chapters. But by the fifth volume, the chapters are mostly 15–20 pages with several well developed characters and plotlines, lots of dramatic moments, and all while still having absurd humor in most of the chapters. The growth and transition between the early chapters and the later chapters feels quite natural too.
