Ayano lost both her parents and now lives with her uncle in the countryside, keeping her friendship with Arrow, a small white snake she met when she was younger, a secret. He grew quickly, transforming into a splendid, large white snake.

On the summer she turned 14, she was chosen to dance at the village festival. However, on the day of the festival, a large snake that escaped from the circus appears, causing great confusion in the villagers. Amidst the chaos, Ayano is attacked by a strange man. Then, like a large gust of wind, a witch wielding a broom appears and saves Ayano by a hair's breadth. The witch reveals that she had been staying in the village to study folk customs. The witch introduces herself as Oohara and she invites Ayano to attend her alma mater.
