Why?
Despite being in love with OG!FL, ML not only dates around after OG!ML goes to the battlefield but, obviously, fucks around as well. ML is a serial cheater.
This isn't unrequited OR unconfessed. Og!FL and ML told each other that they love each other romantically and sexually before OG!FL was forced to leave for 11 years in 1st timeline/according to the book's plot. (10 in the new timeline/FL's current reality. OG!FL comes back a year early.)
Why did OG!FL had to leave? She defended ML against his Emperor-brother and was sent off to war in ML's place as punishment.
That's right. ML was publicly cheating on OG!FL with other women including with FL while OG!FL was in constant and literal life or death combat because she stood up to ML's psychotic Emperor-brother for a whole ass decade.
FL is no better. Why?
She apparently has reality shattering powers but never once used it to figure out how to beat the Emperor. In the novel, that her reality is now based on, the Emperor was defeated, right? Does she use her knowledge from that novel to figure shit out? No, of course not.
Even worse? FL is not creative or ingenious in the slightest. She's incredibly boring and painfully stupid to read about.
It can be argued that the Emperor, who knows about the original novel, is fully aware of all the ways he could be killed so he's got contingency plans in place. That's why FL didn't rebel in the first place. There's no point, I guess.
Seriously? FL couldn't rub two brain cells together to cobble up a surprising new plan and/or figure out another way to kill the Emperor with all of her knowledge? Why is it that the Emperor can do exactly that but she can't? They both read the same novel, right?
Ugh.
The entire story relies on you to some degree buying into the fl & the ml being in love during their 6 year relationship and rooting for them. The problem is u don’t, despite them both repeatedly stating they fell in love during their relationship i didn’t buy it at all. He doesn’t truly believe she ever loved him which would be interesting to explore except we never get to as he’s constantly trying to propose to her anyway only for her to reject him because he’s the personification of a flip flop and keeps changing his mind
Honestly I was significantly more interested in the fls relationship with the emperor, he’s evil and she’s terrified of him but at least he has a backbone and remains somewhat consistent, when he offers to marry the fl I have full faith that he’ll acc commit, now what kind of marriage that would be is a whole separate matter… although I think she’s misjudging him prematurely, he seems to truly not want his brother dead but his paranoia of his brother aiming for the throne is what’s causing him to feel the need to plant so many spies in his life. It bares mentioning the only scenario where he kills his brother is in the one where he does choose to revolt, in every other scenario instead of just assassinating him and being done with it the emperor aims to control/weaken (via killing the ogfl) his brother.
