Hammer Session!

Description

Two prisoners managed to escape after the police truck carrying them crashed on the highway. One of them , Mr Sawazaki is a gangster who has sent 10 different bosses to hospital. The other called "You" - our protagonist - is a con artist whose cheating profile has piled up to approximately 100 billion yen. Accidentally, "You" then becomes the new teacher for the nearby high school, under the new name Takeda Shindo, and according to a deal of "Hammer Session" with the headmaster.

I knew what exactly I've gotten myself into, and to be fair, I've come to like him because who doesn't love a smart dude who happen to have a harem? Of course, those women somehow are similar. Pretty much. Aesthetic wise, it's so 2000s tbh lol.

In the long run, it felt like too long but after two books, there's no loose end anymore so I guess it's not that bad.

Of course, as a manga, this is unlike 1984 (1982) as a film whose teacher killed delinquents who deserved it.

I can't agree with the review below me... If you came here for something like GTO you will only find a rip-off. No it's not realistic in the least, it's way less realistic than GTO and the GTO reference doesn't really make it better... The only thing unrealistic from GTO was Onizuka the MC, but only because teachers that really care for their students with self-sacrifice doesn't exist anymore...
In this manga, the MC is similar but instead of a delinquent we have a criminal fugitive who is a swindler and instead of him being physically strong like Onizuka he is intelligent but not as street smart as him.
The story unfortunately goes nowhere, it's like episodic the plot just disappears. One student has problems the MC fixes them fast in a convenient and predictable way and gets praise "No wonder he's a swindler", and than comes the next student. It's not that it's bad, it's just that in GTO you had story arcs and characters got flush out really well, but here instead you have none. The characters appear just to be forgotten and never to be heard of again, for instance

a reporter appears the MC "defeats" her, than she stays as the school nurse, but at the end she appears reporting news again out of the blue!?

This really had potential but it isn't explored well or at all. Half way through this manga, figuring out the MC past was the only thing that kept me reading till the end but nothing was explained and the background story of the students is almost none.
This sometimes turns really dark but feels kinda forced, like one of the students past, but it gets resolve in a underwhelming way that makes you think "It only took that to help him?".
If you came here for GTO, this is not for you, you might as well read Gokusen(not the anime) which can be as good as GTO or better, depending on your preferences.
If you just want a similar premise or just want something different, you can read it, it's not bad... but you'll ask for more at the end.

GTO done right

A more realistic approach to the "professor saves a problematic class" setting. Chars are more believable, the is none of the monikeries that abound in GTO and the events are realistic and relateable, this one takes itself seriously (45 chapters so far).

Great though with some flaws

This series is really great, much better than GTO in my opinion. However, I think comparing them seems unfair because except the "accidental teacher" plot, they share nothing in common.

First chapters were great, both in terms of art and plot. However as the story progressed I think the author gradually ran out of ideas. From vol 5 or 6, this series started to deviate from a "teacher" plot and gradually fell more into the "comedy/action/martial arts" categories. That being said, there were still teacher/student subplots, and the students still got their lessons at the end of every chapter, but why they were able to understand the lessons, and change that much, was more and more a mystery to me. In other words, I feel later volumes were increasingly lack of character development.

However, this is still a fun manga to read. It can make you laugh until the very end (I mean vol 11). The art is gorgeous, and the fighting scenes are as lively and fresh as from the 1st chapter. Hence my 9/10 ratings.

The first few volumes is great, but after a while, it gets a bit repetitive. GTO has something around the corner that surprise you like Onizake becomes a terrorist and etc. Plus, there is a line of memorable side characters. This is more like come and go. There aren't any interesting side characters (students) and his "scam" isn't that interesting afterward.

But this is a good series

It is very good and educational. I just think that the author ended this series toooooo soon. It seems like this author just end this series. Other than that, this is wonderful.

The story is about a teacher who has a past record as a con-artist. It has its own unique taste, which makes it distinct from other series about teachers, such as GTO and Gokusen.
