Not bad

At times good, at times not so good. Some things are well thought out while others are quite childish or dumb. I like for example the way the author tries to balance Japan's policy regarding the gate and their effect on the isekai. Realistically speaking they could conquer everything in a few months so the author does this (I believe) to crate a more balanced situation, it's not how I would imagine things going if such a gate appeared in the real world but I'm not the writer here. On the other hand, the harem and childishness of the relations and the yet again virgin and clueless MC is annoying, MC is boring and hardly believable as are all who are around him, like the harem girls, they are all into him but not one seam to actually respect him and trash talk him all the time, even his army companions treat him like a retard even after he becomes an international hero, which is another part I don't like, some of the more childish "Hero" moments.

In any case, I find the story quite interesting and I think it makes sense other countries will want a piece of the pie and would even to go to war for it, with Japan to gain access and needless to say, with the other world's countries for their resources and land.
Current countries barely respect other countries sovereignty in front of benefit so in front of vast land and resources that are in the hands of countries with middle age's technology it's expected they would want to take advantage. Japan's approach to the whole thing is more doubtable but the author makes use of modern day's "pretense of peace and humanitarianism" to justify this, I think it's a good justification.
I do think the author takes some things too far, like the press side (I believe they are sensationalists that twist truth but I find it too one sided, why does the government do nothing to put their side in the news too?), or the idiot prince's plots.

Last, Piña colada? really? that's the name of the princess? make an effort with the names man, even Naruto is better and that's saying a lot.

JSDF Propaganda

Not recommended.
This series in its whole is just propaganda for the Japanese self defense force.
Once you realize that, the story loses all of its worth.

Inferior garbage

Utterly boring in so many ways. The author is clearly extremely biased against every other country than japan, the politics are garbage, unrealistic and boring, the characters are extremely uninteresting. I didn't like a single one of them, be it the mc or any other character. The motivations are logic is riddled with too many flaws to mention.

While the setting was interesting and it could've been good, this author has truly no talent for this stuff.

Interesting manga, it mostly focus on what happening around the characters then character development. Im glad the girls are not throwing themselves at the main male character. It focus on politics, war, military, culture, history, discovery. kind of like stargate travling to another place and meeting the new world.

Interesting interactions and portrayals
by shardis

Rating: 9.0  / 10.0
Overall - While there are several battles, the series focuses on interactions. It deals with the cultural and military doctrinal clash between a medieval society and modern society. It also deals with the main protagonist's desire to avoid trouble clashing with his inherent decency and inability to ignore the people in trouble he encounters.

Main Protagonist - Most manga has the protagonist become the most powerful/skilled in his field or a bumbling fool. This protagonist is neither, instead having average combat and officer skills. His only exceptional skill is analyzing trouble and running away if needed. As part of avoiding trouble, he further masks his skills with an outspoken desire to avoid work. Yet when encountering people in trouble, he is unable to turn his back on them and helps as best he can.

NOT a harem - Of the 5 main females, only one truly shows any romantic interest in the protagonist who in turn has trouble returning it because of her age, appearance, and frightening power. Of the other 4, one is interested in his modern knowledge, one treats him as a replacement father figure, one is mostly scared of him as a perceived influential member of a hostile enemy, and one feels both guilty towards and indebted to him for helping save her people.

Romantic Interactions - Several of the side characters exhibit mostly amusing romantic interactions, usually between characters from different worlds. JSDF soldier worshipping a catgirl who is used to being looked down on by humans as a demihuman. A noble female knight falling for a commoner JSDF soldier. Foreign Ministry bureaucrat trying to cope with an underage noble girl who has publicly stated her intention to marry him once she is older.

So and So

Not a harem but close to it. The protagonist seems to attract different females around him. By chapter XX his team are all female. It's a sour point and really it shouldn't have gone into that path. One or two love interest is fine but not a possible harem. Whether they are interested in him or not is irrelevant, having a team of just women and him is off putting.

The world itself is fantastic. I love the different humanoids and there are tons of them.

It's violent, with slavery and rape and worse. Worth a shot, you might lke it.

As of chapter 48
It is fun to read but some times crucial details are not high lighted and the scans are of varying quality. Some times i feel lost, some times I have no idea some things which had happened before. All in all, i feel the more confused as the story goes on, like how
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
hardy is a woman?!! And when exactly rory made itami her servant?

I wish the manga could be more clear than this... still an enjoyable read. i would recommend it to others

Wow i feel so stupid now. This is Definitely one of those causes where i was missing out on something so amazing. I knew about this for a while but thought it would be a generic harem series and pushed it off but after finally giving it a chance i was amazed by how great this is. I just started it and caught up with the whole thing in the same day. This series is a MUST read for people who like darker fantasy's with a mix of military. It feels like an alternate version "Maoyuu Maou Yuusha" where it has a lot of real issues mixed with fanasty and war but of course with the military involved with this. It has a realistic interpretation of many elements and the story can get dark and Critical at many points which is really refreshing. The art is pretty good its not amazing but its still good and nothing to complain over. All in all this series a great Dark Military Fantasy series with some comedy as well. Its pretty great
PS. i have started to watch the anime and yea read this instead!! it is way better. They cut a lot of crucial moments and pretty much the entire R rating for generic bull.

Absolutely amazing

Absolutely awesome manga.

Manga tells a story about conflict between ancient civilization and modern japan in realistic way. Main character is part of Japan unit which explores word beyond gate. Soon his grop grows and they are mixed in various things from politics to hunting bandits to trade.

Other interesting part of manga is how world reacts to sudden appearance of gate. It is obvious that big players want to get into that unknown world and japan needs to play its card right fending off superpowers of modern times.

Our hero also in non standard one. He does have wife in modern world but he isn't really interested in her nor he is interested in anything really. He is very effective in what he does but at same time he isn't very enthusiastic about it. And that is really refreshing because in 99% other manga titles main charcter is mentally retarded kid that gets enthusiastic about everything.

People keep telling it is harem. It looks that way on surface but there is no harem since there is not romance at all here. Only character that tries to get along with main character is Rory but that is probably more about curiosity than love itself. Other than that no character tries to go into romance area.

Fan service is strong here. Normally and due to circumstances. Rape isn't really rare thing in ancient times and manga does not shy away from it.

If you do not like seeing manga that looks down on foreigners, this is definitely not for you. Xenophobia is glaringly present. The focus is written by an ex-JSDF soldier whose politics skew the story a lot but the story does an excellent job of showing the power of even the less significant millitaries in the world compared to ancient times. It also does a good job of articulating the motives of various countries, if not their actions.

I'm not too fond of the melee portions though. Ancient fighters w/ armor and weapons should be able to put up a better fight against a soldier with fixed bayonet if said soldier did not bother shooting.

The combat is superbly rendered while the people are drawn a bit rough. The story can get a bit dark, especially if it focuses on the empire which is like a showcase of all the worst aspects of ancient Europe.
