Description
Satou Matsuzaka doesn't seem to care about much, moving through boys and casting them aside like so used candy wrappers. All that changes, though, when she meets Shio. The little girl changes everything for Matsuzaka. Is this love...? If it is, then it's love through a very warped prism as the high schooler demonstrates there's no atrocity beyond her when it comes to protecting the object of her deranged affection.

The story had the potential to become so much more interesting and complex when they board the plane, but it ends so abruptly right when it's getting good. It just made me think "...that's it? After 11 volumes?" The ending feels so random and unfitting for what came before. The story spends so much time building up the characters and then just dissipates into nothingness before they get to spread their wings. I regret the valuable time I lost reading 11 volumes of this.
Thrilling and cute yuri... assuming you haven't read too much manga

I remember reading some initial chapters of this manga many years ago feeling cute and thrilling, not sure if because my love for 2D stuff in general has worn off or this manga drags out more than it should have. Maybe both. There are other manga that do a better job of sending messages, this one goes on and on about love everywhere, though maybe it's a part of its shoujoish aesthetics too but imo kinda overdone, other shoujo* do make more peculiar observations about life and love that are just not "they're threatening our love blah blah", in this manga I don't remember seeing the girl and the kid telling anything much more about their feelings other than the very simple "I love her".
*not insisting this manga is one but I can't compare it to shounen manga right?
Still the ideas and the way the author explores them are actually interesting to a degree (the search for true love, family versus loved one,..). Do I have to stress this is a very feminine manga?
All that are aside the point of what I should just comment though.
---Dull and repetitive manga. But still you may ended up enjoying it greatly so read it and judge for yourself.

Not that great, I thought it would be much better, but the manga is about making a girl like a deity, people are pesos for her, people love her so much to keep her etc
Not happy.

Don't read this if you want to feel good after. There is no happy ending, really.
The author is very good at following through with the logical irrationality of a twisted personality.
That is very difficult to do and thus this manga gets a 10/10 from me.
In most ways not very special, but the characters are very thorough.

Happy Sugar Life is a love story that is like no others. If I had to summarize it in just a sentence: The Inner Workings of a Yandere, It's all sorts of morally f**ked.
The Yandere archetype is one that is often played for jokes in most stories. If Yuno Gasa from Future Diary, pioneered the Yandere archetype in mainstream anime. The main character, Satou Matsuzaka, refinds it in this one. I really enjoy stories that explore unconventional relationships and characters. Happy Sugar Life managed to scratch that itch for me.
Almost every character is twisted in the head. They all have some warped perception of what "love" is. There is only one "Normal" person in the story. Safe to say she becomes the catalyst for the second half of the story.
Major spoilers:
Reading this manga is like going on a rollercoaster ride. It lulls you in with what seems to be a safe and cute Yuri premise, before dropping you down into a ride with all sorts of emotional twists and mental loop-de-loops. The ending can only be described as... Bittersweet. While it is not the ending that I was hoping for, It is a fitting ending for this wild ride.
Its a sweet love story in a f**ked up way. The writing, while not being incredible, is better than what the other reviews are saying it is. This is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. If you don't like the Yandere trope then don't touch this with a ten-foot pole. If you want a psychological thriller or just a morally SPICY love story, this is for you.

She fucking dies yo. The only somewhat normal person is killed by our MC. It's a twist that I saw coming but was still got like "YOOOOOO, No way! She really just did that!?!". This is where most people end up dropping out.

So this is one of those cute, sweet, adora... wait wtf just happened? kind of mangas... with really. really. really bad exposition and pace of dialogue. I honestly can't tell if a supernatural tag should be added or not for whatever reason. If you understand at all what is going on then please enlighten me.
Pro: MC makes an amazing psychopath/yandere.

all the characters, and I mean ALL, have some kind of psychopathic twisted love. in a capable mangaka, it will be fun to read about the various incarnation of perversion, but unfortunately, this mangaka is not. you will only get a headache.
