Interesting concept, poor execution

I love manhuas, they are always weird, and this is one of those examples. Simply put, it's about a person living in the modern era finding a woman from the past. I won't spoil much, so it's just another typical romance.

There are always exaggerations in manhuas like this, for good reasons, it usually makes it funnier, but after a while, it gets pretty repetitive.

Also, to "Helbrassen" who posted "The main character is an ass. And living in China is not glamorous.", although I do agree with most of your points, some of them are just plain wrong,
on your line " This Manhwa takes place in modern-day China a country that has had a 1 child policy for decades, this means that if a family has a second child the mother is forced to have an abortion, this also means that if that same mother does not get an abortion and gives birth secretly that the baby has no identity, because if its illigal to have more than 1 child you can't report that you had a second one especially if you're poor." This series started around 2022, when, China was already using a two-child policy, not to mention, right now in 2023, China moved to a three-child policy instead since the birth rate in China has decreased a bit too much since the one-child policy.

I am not supporting the one-child policy in any way, numerous families have suffered from it, but what I want to do is point out the errors that no longer apply to China in a non-biased way.

Yes China has its bad apples but so is Japan and hello there are Japanese anime that portrayed its police force as good guys such as Burn Up and in reality Japan's police is corrupt and flawed as well. China has good things too and yes there are even good police officers same with Japan.

The story started off great (in my opinion anyways) it had direction it was going in which was to get FL acclimated to the modern era and find a way to get her identification papers somehow. The story skews of into a ditch after and hasn't gotten back on to the road.

The romance is mind numbingly slow even compared to other slice-of-life romance manhuas. Early on the ML would take the FL out on "dates" of sorts but now they're 90% in the apartment with very few trips outside to get groceries. The story for the last 100 chapters has been the FL working on her gaming stream, and the ML boringly piecing together chainmail links to create...... well...... Chainmail and guess what? He's not even half complete on it.

Seriously this is wayyyyyyyy beyond getting dropped for me the way it has been now.

One of many crappy "romance" story

This is one of the many worst romance stoies ever. The two are playing husband wife and they stay in the same house but nothing happens. This is how humans are right😕 This is how "romance" works right😕
I am 99.9% sure this dork author will make them play husband wife until the end of story when they finally decide to move forward with their relationship and marry or whatever bs the author finally decided.
This is one of many inhumane romance stories that make no sense. Another story example is when mc and fmc play husband wife, and then dork author makes them find some special child. Mc and fmc adopt this child and they play family throughout the whole story.
I don't know who these authors are but I imagine them to be rabbit teeth dorks.

The main character is an ass, he keeps telling the girl that if she's found she will be no better than a slave since she has no personal data/Id. This Manhwa take place in modern day China a country that have had a 1 child policy for decades, this means that if a family has a second child the mother is forced to have an abortion, this also means that if that same mother does not get an abortion and gives birth secretly that the baby has no identity, because if its illigal to have more than 1 child you can't report that you had a second one especially if you're poor. There a heavy fines for breach of the 1 child policy so rural families that have multiple children end up never being able to document them to the state which in turn mean no papers, no ID, no social security and no medical treatments. This (no papers) thig is affection millions of rural people in China so its not an unknown phenomenon. Yet the main character keeps saying there is no way to rectify the situation, my guess if that he will use an excuse like "lets get married" in order to get her an ID or something...

this is another thing i don't like, the manhwa keeps trying to portray police and public security personnel as "good guys" when the truth is that the police and public security personnel are very scary to most Chinese, they regularly extort people with threats, they also outright steal from people and destroy their property, these people are also the ones the state uses to crack down on protests and anyone who deviates from the norm. So in essence this manhwa is trying to glorify China when it's actually one of the worst places to live.

Really good main characters, good slow burn, and yet, where is the author going with this...?

So frankly, I quite enjoy this. The MC is fantastic. He's a bit independent, very intelligent without falling into the 'nerdy' or 'geeky' stereotypes, rational, and caring. To be blunt, as a MC, he's exactly what i want to read about. The female lead is equal parts adorable, intelligent, yet the main source of the 'fish out of water' trope that this story is based upon. The potential romance is great, the humor is nice without being overbearing or too lacking. Honestly, the story hits a lot of sweet spots - not too much, not too little - in a lot of categories.

What's weird to me though, is where the author is going with this. I have no complaints really, but it's VERY slow burn, and yet not slice-of-life? I mean he's not even married to her (yet?) despite the title, and the central issue brought up early on is that she has no citizenship registration, which in china (and elsewhere tbh) is a major issue. No job, no driver's license, can't get noticed by the government, etc. I'm expecting that there will be a fake marriage to somehow make her legal, which given the slow-burn romance, will eventually turn out real.

So yeah, no complaints, but it's so... slow? The MC is a bit of a polyglot tbh, and he really prioritizes giving her a full education on modern life, not just teaching her little bits, but so that she can make her own choices, sprinkled in with a bunch of commentary on society. A little overly perfect? Perhaps, but way better than doing it for sketchy/scummy reasons, or having a disgusting or creepy MC. Please no complaints on a GOOD MC!

But yeah, my only real issue is how slow it is, in terms of the story's total lifespan. Like 40+ chapters in, and still no marriage. The weird thing is I can't complain, because I'm really enjoying the story, but like... is the author planning on hundreds of chapters? There's absolutely no other female characters, and no love triangle or anything like that. Just curious on what the future plans are. Who knows!
