Great but unrealistic

Listen, I loved reading this series so much that I was willing to purchase it since only four volumes are available online. But at $9.99 - $13.99 for one volume (that's like 4 to 6 chapters) and there is 10 volumes, there is no way in he!! I would purchase this series. I can find any novel with 300+ pages and 30+ chapters for $2.99 and it'd be a great book. Not that I'm saying that this manga should be that low of a cost, but I refuse to pay $100.00 to see how the remainder of this series ends. Maybe I'll get lucky and it'll show up in some local library. Otherwise, there seriously needs to be a rational standard of prices on these books. Even the magazines from there are expensive. I can't see the high cost when you now can electronically send the publisher here a copy to print. That's also way e-books was created to cut out the expense of publishing the actual books.

Anyway, enough of my ranting.

Wasted what little potential there was

The female lead has short hair, that's always hot. The male lead is a vampire. Also cool. But then the werewolf becomes a sidekick? Dude, why'd you have to go ruin it? I hate werewolf/vampire/human stories.

Also, the art may be pretty but the "story" is super flat and uninspiring.

Dropped - Too Sexual

I only got through the first volume. Granted the art is pretty, and I am a Shouoto fan - but the content was too awkwardly sexual. I realize almost all Vampire stories are sexualized, but there are subtle and romantic ways to go about it (Millennium Snow, Vampire Knight, etc), but this one just shoves it in your face with a super grabby possessive guy and a slightly clueless girl. Not my thing.

What'd I expect?

It has the expected beautiful art, Shouoto Aya of course reusing her usual formulaic models of bishounen, and the potentially-wonderful-yet-wasted inconsistent storyline; there are just too many plot twists that don't mesh well together.

A Definite Read For Shouoto Aya
by Lucca

Rating: 9.0  / 10.0
Okay, first of all this comment is based off having read the english scanlations up to 17 and then continued on the Chinese raws up to 27 with basic knowledge of the language.

The art in this is beautiful. When is Shouoto sensei NOT beautiful? It's consistent and fluid and makes the characters and scenery look amazing. the action scenes are clear and easy to follow. Probably worth reading just for the art, if you're into that stuff.

Storyline is initally pretty shallow. Master/Servant, Vampires, Lycans and Tengu? Cliche to say the least. But wait! It deepens, gets better and best of all there is a clear explanation for all of it. It gets pretty jerky at your heartstrings particularly if you're a shoujo manga lover. Best plot out of Shouoto that I've seen so far. The only problem currently is that what is out in the English fandom at the moment is not yet to the point of revelation. Be patient and wait. You'll get your just desserts.

That said, world building is pretty limited. Not for those who enjoy immersing themselves in the world of the manga types.

Characters are cute, heartwarming and conform to some cliches. Kana gets some buff behind her later on but is pretty flat for a good while. Shouoto has used that time to build up the other characters (particularly Jin and Aki) and so she is left behind a little at the start.

Overall, a wonderful manga that works within it's stereotypes and has a solid explanation for the happenings. Nothing too mind blowing but a great read nonetheless. You should definitely be reading this manga if you like this sort of genre. Preferably by buying the books because it has now been licensed in English.

Storyline Confusing Later On...

I couldn't agree any less with Sorcha and Oriolidae. As you read the raws of the most recent chapters (from Icarus Bride), the plot gets SO out of hand that even with my ability to just analyse the raws without understanding the Japanese is useless. I've never felt more annoyed and frustrated when reading raws because of my urge to want to understand the Japanese more than I ever did with Junketsu + Kareshi. When I read raws, just the images are enough to help keep me at pace, but with this series, from one image to the next, everything is literally random and a surprise one after the other. Then you end up thinking, "What the heck is going ON here confused !!" and 70-80% of the time, you literally can't even guess what's going on right away.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The plot is supposed to deal with Aki finding the seven stigmas, correct? Then how the heck does his twin brother end up taking over the tension... Up until now, the plot was supposed to revolve mainly around Aki's journey, but with his twin brother butting in, everything just goes down hill...
The good thing about these random surprises for readers who enjoy Shouoto's art is that it's still entertaining and suspenseful. Well, at least for me, it is. I dearly love Shouoto's art, and with Aki being my favourite male character from her that she's ever drawn, he's practically the only reason I'm sticking with this series until the end.

Since I don't take the plot line too seriously, I personally enjoy the surprises, but it ALWAYS irritates me that I just HAVE to feel more excited and impatient for the next chapter because of those unexpected events. It's so frustrating how my urge to understand what's going on with the current chapter can only be found in the next one, which would end up having another surprise of its own, and let me tell you: This just gets even worse in the most recent raws because you practically have no idea how things will eventually turn out.. I don't like reading a manga that's so full of random surprises that doesn't even flow together to the point that you can't even understand what the heck's going on, but at least Shouoto's art is worth the take for it.

If you're the type that gets easily annoyed at inconsistent plots, don't bother reading this series, especially if you're not a faithful fan of Shouoto's. I'm in love with her art style especially when she draws such smexy bishounens, so I don't really mind. Just keep in mind that after every chapter you go through, your impatience for the next chapter will irritate you more because of how the plot is inconsistently and incoherently driven.

(I give this series a rather bit of a higher rating ONLY because I love her male characters in this series. It kills me how my OTP of AkixKana is always interfered with by Aki's twin brother).

I wish Shouoto Aya decided to hire a writer

You see, SHOUOTO Aya has one of the best art. Unfortunately, the same couldn't be said about the story. Unclear and disjointed story line, illogical action, and just like Oriolidae's comment, it feels like the artist just take random idea and put them into the story without elaboration to the story.

I'm currently reading and it's alright. Art is amazing and drawn with perfection. I LIKE, not love, every character except the lead. I don't know why but she pisses me off. Probably because every time she tries to save Aki, it's her who ends up being saved. My other concern is that sometimes Kana looks like a bishie instead of a girl and I keep thinking the student council president is a girl. Storyline fine, your usual slave and master vampire thing. I like the way she included the Stigma, very nice. I just wish that they include more insight into their past.

I just... really like the art.

The art is lovely.. clean-cut, sharp, no funny angles. The characters - Aki, is handsomely drawn and Cana is a lovely female character, although in terms of character she is a half-full shell that needs more improvement (hopefully with later chapters?).

The story plot is kind of holey - although there is the childhood reference, we don't know much about what happened in-between - what happened to Aki and Eriya after the fire and why did they only find her now?

Later when Aki turned Cana into a blood servant, the plot just gets weirder. It seems that Cana does not even give the slightest objection when that happens, and when Aki expresses his love (in a roundabout way) she just happens to not notice. Really?

Some parts really don't make sense at all in this story - but hopefully it'll get better. a manga with THAT good art can't go too bad.. hopefully. fingers crossed

i love the charcters , they are just too cool
aki is cool and mysterious and kana is not one of those 'protect me!' girls and is strong
there is a lot of mystery! especially about their past!
the suspense of wanting to know what happened with aki's brother
and what change will happen in kana's life
oooooh, i just love this manga
