A miniseries prequel about the encounter between Rain and Zol.
1 Volume (Complete)

This is totally one heck of a manga. The beginning of the story is really good and captivating, and the flow of the story is just great. I love the friendship bond between Zol and Methuselah. The part where Methuselah said the farewell words to Zol is just...so touching! And Kona is so cute!!! Though it's a bit sad that she's a slave. I find it funny that Machika calls Zol "grandfather" too. If she calls him papa, it would be so lovely!
I love the art too. It's really clean and the dialogues ain't confusing and they aren't everywhere in the page. And, I cried at the ending. It's a bit too sad that it ended that way. :<
Meteor Methuselah was good as a whole (a 6 or maybe a 7 to me, as I didn't like much the first -and weak- half of it, in contrast with the other half), but this spinoff was really great. It is a fine example of all the experience of the mangaka, polished over the years, worked on a great development of the concepts, plot and characters mentioned on the original story. It's a shame that to fully enjoy this you need to read immortal rain first (spoiling the conclusion).
So.... a warning!! Even if this is a prequel, do not read it first!!!
Zol... Your too awsome. Im bieng fickle do I love Rain more or Zol more now, indecisive! I love seeing the early story seeing how he is mentioned at the beging of Meteor Methuselah I see alot of Zol's movements in Machika I like that alot. And seeing her birth mother was nice too. The relationship between Zol and Rain is humorous and serious. It's a vreat story about a strong friendship between men. A must read after you finish the first one. Don't forvet about tbe omake either. That's a totally different volume go to the authors page to find it.
Zol... third man I fell in love with in Immortal Rain... Honestly, I didn't care much about the second half of the series, all I cared for was the story between Zol and Rain.
Well, I don't remember anything after the Zol's story ended, like I said, I didn't care. However, Zol's absolutely adorable~! I want to see more between him and Rain, the friendship between them is so touching~ Well, that's not gonna happen, I know... but I went all "ZOL~~~ DON'T DIE~~~"... ><
There's not much to be said seeing this IS a one volume extra. The story's touching, the characters seem real and the relationship between them is adorable. Did I mention the art is absolutely GORGEOUS? That pretty much sums it up. I wish the Zol's story spanned the whole volume though... I'd give it a 9 for the first half...
...I enjoyed it all the way; it was incredibly cute and heart-wrenching. You learn more about Zol, and his role as "grandfather" to Machika, which was also really cute. You also meet Machika's mother, Kona, and she's adorable, too. You have to read this if you read Immortal Rain. Or rather, just read it, Immortal Rain or not. It's worth it.
a 10/10 for me.
I always dislike 1 volume manga story that was not made or cut out to be short. This is one of those type of story, but Kaori sensei did a fantastic job to make me feel that this is an exception to those manga.
Its all there: the humor, drama, tear jerker, friendship development, the love that does not need to be said through words but through actions, the character development, how one scene its humour then the next it changed to tragedy. Very well written, thoughout, and drawn. Its a plus plus to have the art so beautifully drawn.
10/10 for me.
I've read this (in Japanese) and I have to say... Kaori Ozaki knows how to develop her characters. Although this story is a short prequel to Immortal Rain, you really get to know the characters and love them.
In this miniseries, you meet Zol, a bounty hunter who kills without hesitation. You find out, however, that he is haunted by guilt and thinks little of himself. He has a crush on a cute waitress (who just happens to be a slave... and she's pregnant with Machika!) but doesn't allow himself to even touch her because he believes he doesn't deserve her. Zol then meets Methuselah (Rain yay!) and takes him to lunch, not knowing exactly who he is. Although Zol discovers Rain's identity soon, the two develop a friendship anyway.
The friendship between Rain and Zol is ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE. Kona, Machika's mother, is also quite cute and her relationship with Zol is very humorous. I hope this title is licensed and translated into English soon, or somebody scans it!
