Sublime
by Confucius Rex

Rating: 10.0  / 10.0
Koike exceeds his inspiration Moebius by producing a work that pushes every boundary of what cartooning and illustration can be without succumbing to the excesses, unintelligibility, and esotericism which one can often find in experimental works which attempt to capture the psychedelic experience. Panels tear and bend while time and space flow freely backwards and forward to events both real and imagined; emotions rendered abstract and grounded. Yet, in spite of the seeming elimination of concepts as fundamental as cause and effect or any sense of what reality could or could not be, there remains a rather sensible narrative involving characters who are in circumstances which are understandable -- if not relatable -- regardless of the reader's own sobriety. Koike leaves every narrative and thematic door wide open. He produces his masterwork not as an egoistic expression of his artistic and spiritual completion, but as an expression of compassion directing the reader to the limitlessness which can await us. To Heaven.

No idea how to describe this

I'm sure someone else can find a better way to describe this manga. Even better, anyone interested in reading it should go do so immediately.

There's no explaining it, but it's really great.

Reminds me of the dream sequences I had when I was a few years younger -- nonlinear, except when they were. And in fact, I'll be going back to dreaming now, since it's really late.

Amazing and destroys manga conventions

This is the type of manga where you can't differentiate between reality, memories, and hallucinations. It is incredibly unique not only in theme but the way he tells a story. It's completely non-linear and you have more questions than answers. Much like the characters, the audience participates in the blurring of reality and dreams, to the point where we are as confused and in for a ride as the characters are.

Subject to mind fuck

holy shit talk about mind fuck, while reading this several documentary and drug shows trying to link how this manga make sense. I have never been "high" beside the adrenaline and even that was nothing to the comparison of what happening in the story.
VERY interseting

Absolutely Amazing

This is one of those manga that make 99% of all the other manga look like kids stories. Probably the best and most creative concept for a manga I have seen in a long time and it is handled expertly. The art is just insane and captures the intensity and insanity of a hallucinogenic experience unlike any other artists rendition of psychedelics. Its hard for me to say enough good things about this, if you enjoy unique art, and high-minded interesting plots there is no way you will not love this.
