A slow but great story

Simply put this can be said to be the story of a perverted, worthless member of society getting reborn into another world and slowly becomes a better person. This doesn't happen immediately after he reincarnates either but he does eventually become less of a piece of trash and more a genuine character.

I think a good thing to mention with this story is that the story is as mature as the main character is in his new life. When the MC is a child its a childlike and barely adult themed besides the MC staying to his old perverted ways(which he never brakes off) he or being bound by his old life still. But by the time the MC is an adult the story and plot are serious and can get dark. Don't expect the story to be big and grand in the first immediate volumes, this is a slow but steady ride throughout the story.

The harem is also done pretty well compared to most harems I have read, and the romances actually go somewhere throughout the story. I will admit sometimes the romances can feel a bit off but compared to other novels to me its a breath of fresh air.

The biggest downsides I can see for this story is that its slow and not action pact immediately, there is remarkable amount of hidden incest (2 cases) that arent mentioned so I thought I would, and I did notice that this story tries to make the world not that safe, but due to the MCs experiences we never end up believing it due to him never running into these dark elements. Another downside is because most people rate this a 9/10, including me, people assume this is something that tailors to their taste as well. Dont assume you will like a story just because a large amount of people do.

And one last comment, the MC isn't more OP than everyone else. He is strong for his age yes and he is OP for a normal person due to reasons stated in the story but most of the entire later part of the story we see the MC face people who could literally kill him in a minute if Rudy didn't prepare for months on end. Just because the MC is strong doesn't remove the tension from any of the fights and his powers barely put him on equal grounds with his opponents

Probably one of the best written light novels ever. The story is really well written as nothing feels rushed or out of place. Reading this novel though, can really get you emotional as you really do care about the characters.

The MC can be a bit too perverted, but he at least knows when to be and not. He also actually gets with the girls that he likes and knows how to deal with them, well after a certain incident he does. The side characters are also well developed and have a place in the novel. They're just not there to be the side character.

Honestly again, this is one of the best light novels ever written.

This novel is one of the best I've read in a while. The character development is amazing and at the end, you can really feel how much Rudeus has changed from the beginning. In the beginning, the main character is somewhat detestable. He was just the average perverted freak with no morals. This is slowly changed by the people he meets and events he experiences. He goes from an insecure, weak, apathetic individual to a confident, strong, and caring individual. This shows with his frequent meetings with Hitogami as he is first shown in his old world's body but at the end, he is in the new world's body. This can represent Rudeus's growth and acceptance for who he is.

Everyone has their preferences though, some people may not enjoy this and condemn others for enjoying the novel. That's their choice though. In my opinion, this is one of the greatest light novels/web novels I have read. The only issues I have is that the web novel ended with some questions left unanswered, which is why i gave it a 9.5 instead of a 10. Maybe the sequel will explain them.

Also, a lot of the people are complaining about the harem and how perverted the MC is. The perversion of the MC from beginning to mid-way of the series is definitely a turn-off but after that, it becomes less and less of an issue and unlike other harems, this MC is actually smart and not indecisive.

Strong start, weak end

A realistic portrayal of what a NEET is. It isn't a power fantasy since the MC needs to read and train, all his goals are active, actions by the MC have consequences, the portrayal of an isekai where it isn't just a pure power fantasy but it's a horrible world that is controlled by numerous people that he couldn't face alone.

Great start, but it falls off at the later volumes as it focuses less on the character growth of the MC. I love the fights when it is used to represent his ego or other aspects about the MC, or if the fight is used to portray how the world changes him. Instead, most later fights are just the typical fighting that needs to be done for conflicting reasons between both sides.

While this makes a lot of sense, I feel it undermines this novel's great opening. While the later parts aren't bad, I wouldn't say they are exceptional like the earlier volumes. Not to mention, he frogrts most of his lessons later on, and maybe due to writer's block, he keeps relearing morals that he should've already known.

Do yourself a favor and read this book. I won't list on the why it's good, that's something you need figure out yourself. What I can guarantee is that, at the end, you will love this. Unparalled emotional rollercoaster that is pleasing to read

Reincarnation novels

Reincarnation done right. Reincarnation in many religions is supposed to give the soul the opportunity to mature and grow not a tool to simply exploit the knowledge of past lives for some kind of wish fulfillment. I am mostly hating on Gun-ota. Re:monster and Slime Tensei have the same feel of being reset back to level 1 after the game over and more like they are playing a video game. Jashin is a reincarnation novel that isn't really a reincarnation novel. It is more like rising from the dead as a God combined with going to a fantasy world. Reincarnation is more like he got a job to pay off his debt and work his way to retire in heaven. Souen no Historia uses Reincarnation to give back a life that was taken too soon and part of the novel is leading up to people reuniting with lovers long thought dead. That Novel's protagonist is more deserving of his gift of new life as evidence of him receiving the same name as his previous one.
Mushoku Tensei is more of the journey to purify yourself and learning from mistakes. Rudeus has the strongest character development and story. The novel even has character development for other characters too.

like the tittle state this novel is not for every one . i would highly recommend this series because of the story and how author craft every character.( i do wish for more chapter on how the another character view of thing ) . this is the story of change, the MC change form a closed closet jerk into an
"pervert" family man that willing to ANYTHING to protect his family and friends.

this is the ultimate masturbatory material for anyone who always dream of going to another place, living in another time, and being the strongest, baddest, most loved person of all time - this is the daydream of many, the wish of most.

and i love it.

i love that this manga never try to make a good hero, he is what most of us are - the useless, the weak, the anime lovers and game addicts. we who spend hours farming slime just to immersed ourselves in a world of magic and sword. we who got excited with 2D. we who dream of being the greatest existence just like in game.

there is so much imperfection here, because the protagonist is too perfect. however, that's what we want, that's what we imagine our game life would be. so many talk of boobs and ass, quite often interfering with the progression of the story, but that's fine, just like an ero game. even I, who do not like light novels because the sentences are too short and not smooth (none of translators fault, those kind of things are just hard), are charmed by rudeus's life, my daydream of a second life.

dont expect literary masterpiece, dont expect riveting characters, dont expect anything mind blowing since this is just a fantasy game in a novel form - but embrace it for what it is - a guilty pleasure.

after finishing everything, i am so glad to read this. i come to love every single one of the characters including hitogami. i will wait for continuation on how are the descendent going to fight hitogami.

I Just felt like I had to post this because of the few people who gave a bad review. Not sure if trolls or... 😕 To the guy who called this novel a "sick pedophile fantasy", this is set in a European medieval fantasy world so... 12 years old or whatever is pretty close already to what's considered an adult age and reproducing.

To the guy who called the mc a spineless character, you have to take in consideration that the mc was bullied in school and as a result, became a hikikomori that literally lasted his entire life. That and he was thrown into a whole different world. We can all say that it's had some traumatic effects.

Sorry if there was any spoilers, but most of this can be inferred from the summary and even at the start of the novel, that is if people actually can read and comprehend.

Before any other moronic statements like "More like for Young Adult" are made. This series is tagged as SEINEN and as such, the adult references are justified. Stick to Doraemon if you can't stomach adult humor.
