Rollercoaster of emotion

I read this in about a week. Had to. It keeps you peeled to its pages.
Charaters are relatable, almost always feel real.

While there are misunderstandings here and there, nothing major, so don't expect the usual "she comes at the wrong time and he doesn't have the time to explain himself and there you have the start of drama".

The plot was fairly interesting, the story keeps a brisk pace, but not too fast either. Things seem to happen naturally, maybe beside that one time a certain stepsister decides to break up while being still in love and having absolutely no reason to (or, bad reasons maybe). But hey, it's people, they make mistakes, expecially when feelings and emotions are involved! We're not rational machines that always output the best possible response to each scenario.

The style (both writing and drawing) were a little above meh at the beginning and kept increasing in quality. The mangaka showed some (or maybe, LOT) fanservice, which surprisingly didn't really ruin the whole thing. I still struggle to understand if it's an hentai with story, or a story with hentai in it... Just joking.

The author wrote a masterpiece, and while the ending wasn't what I expected, I feel it made sense.
Don't read it if you're emotionally fragile right now. Settle up, be sure you and your partner, if you have one, are doing great, have no problems in real life. Then you can enjoy the drama and not cry too much.

Just to add to how good this thing is, I came and registered to post this rating. And I've seen other masterpieces like Death Note, Assassination Classroom, Code Geass, and more emotionally engaging stuff. Still, this strikes a chord in my heart.

people are idiots in real life

so i guess it's okay for characters in manga to be idiots as well. domekano has twists, some sort of character development, lots of backsliding, toxicity, and squandered opportunities. the art is pretty good, too bad the ending was haphazard and stupid but so is real life. if you want escapism maybe look elsewhere, same if you want a consistently good manga.

If you don’t like adult and teenager love or incest or unhealthy relationships, this isn’t for you. Move on. I made the mistake of continuing. Lol I was actually looking forward to seeing Natsuo and Rui to grow up + mature together only to be disappointed. I find it very disgusting that the author really did that.. all for the red string of fate. Expect a Disney-inspired kiss near the end. Those who actually are satisfied and loved the ending of the manga are just simps in love with Hina. You’ll probably see them all on the subreddit, twitter, or discord. They’ll defend her til the very end. What does a predator and Hina have in common? They had sexual relations with a child with no or very little previous experience and knew the consequences of their actions but still went through with it. Natsuo was a 17 year old when they started it all. Teens have a lack of good judgement at that age. Watch the American TV miniseries A Teacher. It really opened my eyes and made me think of Hina and Natsuo, except both are stupid til the very end and you’ll see why. The decisions at the end make no sense. I’ve debated with people about it just to get an understanding of it and although Hina is a good-hearted person, I still don’t support unhealthy desires for love and getting depressed over a teenage boy you were in a 3 month relationship with. I’m not even gonna go too much in detail. This review would be too long if I did that. All I gotta say is— it’s Japanese manga. Anything can truly happen if you want it to in the fiction world, of course. I’m just not gonna read any more of the author’s future works. Its pretty much the same scenario from the previous ones

I see a new version of Ichigo 100% in this manga. Yet, this hits me soo much that I have to comment here to vent my feelings out. First of all, I think the ending was forced but correct. I mean, you guys read the whole thing right? You know how much of this series was happening in the sidelines. I can't even focus on the main story line knowing how much

Sacrifice Hina was doing, I was rooting for her starting from that sacrifice arc till the end. The emotions the author gave her were just hitting me dead center. She definitely deserve that ending. It feels good to see her get her due after all those years.
. I concede, the author made us read through hundreds of chapters saying otherwise, but it was her that's doing the heavy lifting in this manga. That being said, I completely thought that it will end the other way around, logically speaking. It's an emotional manga that at times I could not take,

the Hina slander in the middle of the manga was so bad I want to stop reading it every time I reach the end of a chapter. The Ending feels like a fan service of some sort for us Hina fans, or at least good karma working it's way into the story
. Over all, it started good then it capitalized on the controversy it created, and more so capitalized on the big plot twist moment. Nothing bad to say. Wouldn't advise reading for the emotional, empathetic or feint hearted.

The Last of us 2 levels of controversy for manga.

To say this manga was shrouded in controversy since its inception would probably be only the tip of the iceberg.

Domestic Girlfriend is a series about a character who loses his virginity to some random chick named Rui. Something he then sort of regrets because he already had feelings for someone else. This girl in question being his teacher, Hina. Natsuo (MC) gains feeling for her as she figures out that he wants to write a story. So Hina is constantly pestering him for another chapter of his book while Natsuo gets flustered and slowly but surely gained feelings for her. Now the story actually starts when his dad actually marries another women giving Natsuo 2 step-sisters. Lo and behold the younger sister is the girl he slept with and the older sister is his teacher that he's in love with. Now he has to deal with both of these under one roof.

Now the series is awesome. The love triangle between Natsuo and Rui and hina is the best part about the series. It is exciting and invigorating. I loved seeing all the emotion between these characters fall into place. These 3 characters are easily what carries Specifically Natsuo. His growth throughout the series was really fun to watch. This alongside Rui and Even Hina. The side characters however did fall short somewhat. Some of them were actually really good namely Miyabi and the librarian chick. But some of them fell short as well. Al for example was pretty unlikable for most of the series.

Did i say the love triangle was the best part about the series? I was actually lying because the art was the best part of the series. The art is just magnified by the story. The reason for that is because the romance of the series works really well. The author does a great job of making the characters show that they love each other rather than tell them. This is the artistic detail in the face and the eyes. Especially the eyes. It really shows that the character is in love. And i think the author did a good job in making the character look like there in love.

Now back to the um.. series. The series kinda sucks dick.

Now i did love the story of the series. For 27 volumes this series was fantastic, Until it did sort of fell apart near the end. Now i don't think the series sucks as much as people have stated, but it does sort of break apart and the reason for that is because of How Hina achieved her victory.

The series for the first 75 chapters is about Hina and Natsuo. Rui slowly also understands her feelings. But mainly about Natsuo falling for Hina harder and harder and Hina falling for Natsuo. Over the course of the series though Hina being his teacher was a relationship that probably wouldn't last. So they end up breaking up after someone finds out about there relationship. Natuso than heart broken tries moving on,on which Rui decides to be honest with herself that she is in love with Natsuo. Natsuo as well overtime garners feelings for Rui moving on from Hina.

Natsuo absolutely adored Rui and wanted a future with her. He wanted to be her husband and have a future with Rui. This is shown for over 150 chapters. The series is almost all about Rui and Natsuo. They break apart only to get back together. The claw through so much together and apart to be together only for it to be some bullshit for them to not end up together.

Now I've heard some people say that Hina was always the true victor and that Rui was nothing more than a rebound and if that sounds like complete Horseshit thats because it is. These thoughts however are pretty much par for the course for any romance harem series. You will always have people saying that x heroine was back up anyway. If Rui had won many people would pretty much be saying the opposite about Rui instead and calling Hina the invertible loser instead.

Hina gets into an accident trying to protect Rui. Which results in Hina becoming a vegetable. Rui plagued by guilt decided to give up on Natsuo and several years later after she wakes up Natsuo ends up happily married to Hina.

This is very much a weak ending by the author.. The manga had setup for so long for Rui to win only to end up changing her mind at the last second. Im not saying it doesn't make sense but its still pretty bullshit. The reason for that is because Hina didn't really win. Rui surrendered. After so long of Rui and Natsuo we are just supposed to accept that they are not gonna be together that after so long of Natsuo finally moving on from Hina rejecting confessions because he is still in love with Rui he ends up with Hina anyway.

If Hina had won over Natsuo this would've been much more enjoyable to watch. But it feels more like she got lucky rather than something she deserved. If Kei Sasuga really wanted Hina to win as she stated she did. Then she should've made Natsuo choose Hina rather than her being the only choice avalible. This is the biggest issue of Domestic Girlfriend. Hina's victory is hollow rather than deserved.

I did however say that i didn't hate the ending as much as eveyrone else and that is because the first 75 chapters are still fresh in my mind. Every single promise that Natsuo made to Hina is still rinigng in my head. But every single hollow promise to Rui is also ringing in my head.

I do understand that this is a very negative and critical review of the series. But I still enjoyed this manga. Its carried by interesting characters, Certain episodic events and the artistic talent of the author. I do wished that the ending would be better. I do wish the heroine that i was rooting for won. and I do wish that the author wrote a more fleshed out ending as it does feel like there are 4-6 volumes between volume 27 and volume 28. Its not that i don't understand what the author tried to do. Its the fact that she did it poorly.

I honestly don't know how to rate this series. I did love it and I did hate it. But Despite that i do think this is a good enough to be worth reading.. And part of the reason is because its over now. ITs finished Binging this series for the last 3 days has been quite the experince.

TLDR: Half the people who told me the ending sucks haven't even actually read the manga. I know I asked. I myself did not enjoy the ending all that much but i would still recommend this series. I do think you guys should check out this series. ?/10

Ending is controversial, could have been done better but is understable despite being highly unrealistic as it has underlying concepts that are shown throughout the series.

It's obvious that the ending was changed in the last 3-4 chapters, maybe he was pressured by fans to choose Hina, but he changed his mind too late. The moment Natsuo told Hina that he was chasing Rui to the US, it's obvious that was his answer to who he loved more. They even had a kid. Then the last chapters suddenly Hina "sacrifices" herself (it wasn't even a sacrifice, as she always caused problems for keeping all to herself), and the author makes him marry her out of pity, even making the kid not have a normal family life. Such a waste.

I rarely leave comments but I felt like I had to for this one. I'll go through a few points in regards to its weaknesses and strengths. It is rather long so do bear with me but I wanted to talk about the manga as a whole and not just praised it overwhelmingly or just trash-talking it. (TL;DR at the end available but do try to read from the third paragraph as I highlight some strengths of the manga.) Similar review I read online -----

Spoiler Alert!

As most people have said, ending was rather badly done and quite anti-climatic. It's not really about the end itself

Natsuo ends up with Hina
but rather the last events the led up to the ending. For me, I've pretty much knew all along who he's gonna end up with and I have no problem with that. With that said, I felt that the story should've been brought back to

and their rekindled relationship to justify the ending more. It makes sense that people would be mad that
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
practically a lot of character & story development was done when Natsuo and Rui were together. Even as it was about to reach the end, the story was still about Natsuo and Rui. If the author had done a better job to redirect the reader's line of thought back to Hina rather than just use the 'how much she sacrificed and protected from the shadows' card.
I'm sure there's many things to discuss about the ending but that's the gist of it. Some other comments have also made good points about the ending despite it being delivered in a hateful manner lmao.

Other than that, the cliche stuff, the fan service, usage of explicit scene, blah blah blah. Most people treat it as a bad thing in manga and it's true that it's not the best thing to put in a manga but it's not like the usage of it was so bad that it undermines all the other aspects of the manga. I personally think it's a given that those scenes and events will happen due to the nature of the manga itself. If you read enough manga in general, both good and bad, this manga would seem like one where it is suitable to use those cliche or fan service stuff. All in moderation ofc, which I think was achieve.

Now, onto the abundance of sub-plots. Some said that sub-plots were brought up all of a sudden and then vanished without bringing an end to it. I think this can be reflected on our growing/teenage to adult stage. Characters were introduced here and there, different hobbies/ activities are discovered, different conflicts between different characters, difficulty in conforming to society, finance problem, depression. It shows what teenagers in that stage, maturing into society but still unsure of oneself, "using that freedom to do soul searching" as said in the manga, it shows what they go through. I'm sure most people can relate to some part of the manga. It's not a depiction of perfection or how something should happen. It's how would different people see things in a different way and how would struggling people find ways to deal with their imperfections. People commented about inability to control emotions and how some events seem stupid but in reality those things might just happen too.

Character development as well as different aspects to society was rather well done imo. Like how we tend to get roped into addiction such as drugs, how society could not view homosexuality as a norm, how we dwell on our past trauma, suicide, self-harm, prostitution, forbidden love. Those parts of the manga really shines through and it really shows how nothing is perfect and how we cope with the consequences and reality of society.

In the end, it isn't a chick flick or a super cheesy manga, no extremely cool male lead, no romance that stays perfect throughout the story. You get the point. Sure, the manga ends badly in terms of ending, the pacing goes off in a few parts but is it bad enough to dismiss the other good aspects I mentioned? Not at all. Instead of groaning about the imperfections, try to enjoy it and not let yourself get blindsided from the good parts.

TL;DR : It's a good read but do not create expectations of your own and expect them to go a certain way. Also, do not read if you're only a fan of romance manga/ flicks. It is more of a teenage drama and should be enjoy as such with an open mind. Also, artwork is fantastic and amazing.
