(even if you dont read everything read my paragraphs 3,4 and 5 please)
it doesnt take itself seriously, and unlike a few other idol show manhwa it doesnt get you really emotional and deep in your feelings. its like a fem debut or die but with less angst and emotion. Main character is a middle aged otaku office worker who would give her life away for a teenage idol she happens to see on a survival show. she says the girl "yeonwoo" is like her daughter but then describes her in a very- undaughterly- manner, likening her to aphrodite, and calling everything from her body, to her looks, to her personality, to be otherworldly
Yeonwoo unfortunately doesnt make it into the debut lineup and is in 11th place according to the rankings, and the main character finds it unfair as she believes Yeonwoo is the greatest thing ever created, and blames this loss on a series of events; starting with Yeonwoo messing up the character introduction interviews of the show, then tripping on her untied shoe lace on the first stage and a bunch of other kind of minor things; she looses the show and eventually goes on hiatus, popping back up with an instagram account a few years later. MC takes the insta account as a sign that her beloved yeonwoo would no longer debut, and gets so upset the system introduces her to the game
its very obvious the main character is an unreliable narrator with hr descriptions of the world, characters and Yeonwoo. she describes yeonwoo as being overly-talented and being deserving of number 1 despite her stats being low. the only time Yeonwoo ever does really well is when she cheats and swaps her skills with the actual number 1 trainees, or when she uses her skills on her. to be honest the main characters obsession with yeonwoo surpasses normal human understanding, from the borderline insane obsession and stalking, to the weird descriptions are thoughts of this teenager (mind you shes middle aged) to treating other trainees as unimportant tools whose only purpose is to further Yeonwoo along.
it all really peaked for me with one incident wheere i was kind of like this surpasses insaity; when brought into this game world to help yeonwoo she is told theres a thing called karma, and she gets 4 chances. if all 4 slots sare filled up she gets stuck in an interdimensional rift between heaven and earth, basically limbo for eternity, she gains karma points by causing very significant changes to other peoples lives. by entering the game she automatically gained a point, and now has 3 slots left. later on remembering how Yeonwoo initially tripped on her shoelaces she reties them to make sure they arent loose, despite this Yeonwoo still ends up falling.
Eventually groups are set for the first evaluation of the show and Yeonwoo is falling behind, due to her strong will the system gives her the option of allowing one person rewind time back to the start of their choreography, so they gain the skills and talent but their stamina is refreshed each time with 0 time passing. the problem is to do that shed have to give up one karma point, mind you she only had 3 left, and she doesnt know which one of her ever-meddling schemes will get her another one. she then says the only reason Yeonwoo tripped and fell was because she didnt tie them well enough (MIND YOU YEONWOO WAS ALWAYS GOING TO FALL WETHER OR NOT SHE INTERVENED) the main character then says she will take responsibility even if it affects her life, so yeonwoo would succeed. mind you yeonwoo no longer being an idol might hve been out of her ow violition, and might be a result of her not truly liking the job and industry; and yet you would selfishly give uo your life ignorng your family who obviously very deeply care for you, over a girl who you find pretty
anyway if you shut your brain off and read its kind of funny. none of the charcaters really are developed or given a backstory, so its all surface level and light hearted
