The Great Wizard Transcendent

Description

Mikhail Walpurgis didn't feel qualified for the title of Hero, and instead let the warrior Siegfried lead the prophesied battle against the Devil. But after Siegfried dies and the army is defeated, Mikhail has one last move before the end of the world. And so he turns back time. Now, Mikhail has the chance to reclaim the title he gave up and save everyone. The only problem is, no one believes the prophecy about the war! Can Mikhail manage to gather an army and make this life count?

Regression with a vengence

Started off better than most, with a strong cast of characters, some with clashing ideals and personalities, which the MC had to use his wits to convince to join his right path.
Pretty quickly it became like any other generic, regression, power fantasy though.
MC overpowered any opponent easily, or he already has the perfect tool prepared, as if he remembers every second of his former life, and connected the dots for stuff he never knew on the fly. He's also just as arrogant, smirky and dismissive of his friends and their concerns as any generic MC now, even though he has no reason for most of them -the former hero clearly deserved it, that's a different matter.
Also, Mikhail doesn't need to hide that he regressed from any of his close friends by the 20th chapter, but still does even if it would have made it easier for him to fulfill his goals.

I love that, in the future he came from, everyone was like "we chose the wrong 'hero'" and now, after regressing, he's doing everything he can to prove the "hero"-to-be is a bad choice.

The art is inconsistent and a little below average.

To the reader who's annoyed about him claiming he's a genius and comes from a good bloodline: he's not saying that because that's what he believes. Everytime he says that, it's used as an excuse to cover up his lifetime of experience and knowledge from before regression. What other excuse would you come up with? The people in this universe already have difficulty believing in prophecies, so they would consider him absolutely insane and not hero material if he claimed to be a regressor.

In the way he just did not GAF about anyone's life trajectory and was just trying to bulldoze his way to maximum combat unit efficiency.

That is all this manhwa has going for it. I dropped it after season 1 ended.

It isn't bad ''per se'', it has a decent yet not too original start, but as it goes on more and more cliches are added. I read till chapter 25 and I¡l drop it unless it manages to squeeze up the rankings this year.

I mean the fact that he constantly saying how he's a genius and how it's all in the blood (at least 5 times per chapter) is really of putting, specially when he was supposedly quite dumb until 23 … The last nail in the coffin was randomly trying to put random Norse mythology elements into the novel with 0 context.

The art is a bit weird (especially around their eyes occasionally) but overall the series isn't bad. The opening chapter had some really amusing trope inversion going on, with the 'prophesied hero' getting offed and the rest of the party being like 'gdi, I knew we never have left it to that idiot'. Cue eventual time reversal, and the MC (mage, NOT the hero who died) rises from his pre-tragedy past.

So yeah, standard regression, with many familiar tropes thrown in. Like for example, the political engaged fiance breaking it off with him because he's a loser (except it's actually a coverup, as they cheated and broke the engagement rules beforehand).

So yeah, it has its fair share of tropes, but it's not overly formulaic. I like how the stuff was woven together, and even the antagonists so far aren't really evil, as just on opposing sides. Plus, the actual apocalypse hasn't happened yet with the Demon Lord or whatever, so there's more to look forwards to, though as a result a lot of the story (so far) is centered on politics and big-braining stuff.
