maniac road = poor man's genshiken

have no doubts...that's a low quality manga here....the plot is nothing much...the plot devices are childish and laughable...the art is below mediocre...he uses actual photos in the manga without making them properly look like manga art....it's just black and white out of focus pictures that he uses for backgrounds....very crude...apart from that most of the manga doesn't have any backgrounds
the general art is very basic and not quite skilled

the only reason you would read that is because it is in the otaku category...the story is episodic...one chapter is for dolls, another for comiket, model making, crane games ( confused i never thought someone would be obsessed with that)....

anyway as you will figure out this is a manga about the mangaka's personal obsessions...it is amatuerish but it is entertaining if you're interested in learning more about hobbies in japan and otaku....(by the way it's not otakus....japanese doesn't use plular like this...it's otaku and manga whether singular or plural)

Disappointing

I enjoyed this series quite a bit, but the ending was just puzzling. There was absolutely no closure whatsoever. Takezou goes off to the U.S. to open up Cauliflower branches there and Maniac Road re-opens....and then the story ends. It seemed more like the end of a story arc than the end of a story.

I find myself wondering if the mangaka intentionally left the story so open-ended to return to this story later on.

Actually, it was good

Surprisingly, this manga was actually pretty nice. If you are like me, and think otaku, cosplaying, and cons are incredibly lame, you might think that this manga will be a fan-escapade-saturated piece of crap like Aoi House, but actually, I found this one enjoyable. I think it's because this one focuses enough on other stuff that it isn't sickening, and the characters have enough personality that they don't seem brainless. I think the mangaka did a good job of making them like actual people who really enjoy and appreciate something, rather than losers just sodomizing something with no respect for it. (Unfortunately, the people I come across who call themselves "otaku" are almost always the latter (henceforth referred to as "fangirls"). What a shame.) Well, most of the characters, anyway... there are a few minor characters that are the mush-for-brains-fangirl type. I guess in a manga like this you can't just pretend that they're not out there, but I definitely don't enjoy reading about the likes of them.

Anyway, the art is pretty good and the series is pretty funny--I even chuckled out loud a few times (it's not very easy to make me laugh out loud, just so you know). The only thing that really brought me to chagrin is how the fangirls treated poor Aoba sometimes; she really should have gone to the police and pressed harassment charges. If only there were a chapter towards the end where the fangirls learn their lesson and stop being so awful; that would definitely make this manga better.

Right, so, bottom line, this manga has room for improvement but is still a pleasant surprise. I recommend giving it a try.

Very interesting and funny.
What a waste that a good manga like this had to end early.
