Going home for his grandfather's funeral, thirty-year-old bachelor Daikichi is floored to discover that the old man had an illegitimate child with a younger lover! The rest of his family is equally shocked and embarrassed by this surprise development, and not one of them wants anything to do with the silent little girl, Rin. In a fit of angry spontaneity, Daikichi decides to take her in himself! But will living with this overgrown teenager of man help Rin come out of her shell? And hang on, won't this turn of events spell doom for Daikichi's love life?

Well, those of us who aren't kids anymore, anyway. It is cute, sure, just not the kind of flowery cute you'll find in the more horrible realms of shoujo.

And, get the books if you can. Not exactly super cheap, but excellent quality.

This manga was perfect. And I loved every single chapter up until when Rin turned into a teenager. For all you readers out there, this is the most WONDERFULLY written family manga up until ch. 25. After that, everything just went KABAAMM and yeah.

First off, I really loved this series, it was so good. And the first part when he's taking care of her is cute and heart warming, like a father-daughter relationship and I was happy with the ending. That being said, the fist part is from the point of view of Daikichi, so of course he would only look at her as a daughter.

Think about it, the author had set up things that would point to this ending if they decided to go with it.

One of them being Rin saying that Daikichi is not her father, also Daikichi never really being able to end up with Kouki's mother, and also Rin not really being able to go for Kouki at all. When you think about it, the author obviously had this type of ending in mind, even if she didn't go with it.

Also, I believe that any type of love can be if you truly go for it. And I don't like it when those people bash it because they just don't think that it was a suitable ending. I get that you are entitled to your opinion on whether you liked or not, but does any one have to go on a hate rant about people who like it, because they hate a relationship? You don't like then ending then fine, but don't bash others who did, it just makes those ranting looking hateful and pathetic.

But anyway, if you're looking for a nice family type story, this is a definite read. And if you hate that

that the two main characters plan to marry at the end and have a family together even thought the man raised her as a daughter and the woman never really saw him as a father but rather a man who takes care of her in place of a parent then I suggest that you do like others say and stop after volume 4.

I watched anime, and it's definitely one of my favorites. It would be very nice, if they would made second season with alternate ending. Manga - 9.5 (best in father-daughter genre), later part - 5. Oh God, if it's possible, let them make it!

It's really fucking creepy just how many people are 100% accepting or LOOKED FORWARD TO the ending that we got. You are them, the anime fans that cause everyone to hate anime fans. The creeps. The pedophiles. The incels with no actual social ability and think that any sort of relationship between a parent and child is okay. Anyone who agrees with this ass-pull M. Night Shyamalan WHAT A TWEEST! ending probably has sadbrains and a distinct lack of friends who aren't creepy fucks.

The ending was not planned. This is extremely obvious if you look at Daikichi's reaction to looking at the medical notes at the beginning, no reaction yet he supposedly "knew all along" that she wasn't blood related. It's ham-fisted in the extreme and all of the characters began acting like Bizarro versions of themselves at the beginning of the finale storyline.

It's also really fucking hilarious reading these comments and seeing so much "if you look at it with an open mind" and "people who have closed minds hate this ending" bullshit. No. It is not "looking at it with an open mind", that is pathetic self-cheerleading in an attempt to not look so goddamn socially retarded and ethically dubious. The internet giving a medium for scum such as those who think raising a young child and then marrying them later is okay, is the worst thing about this connectedness.

I agree with fuzetsucans in that you can stop reading at ch24 and it be a really good story. It was interesting seeing how he reacted in raising a child, from getting a daycare to bedwetting, and was a pleasant read. If u like drama u can even keep reading after the skip and be satisfied (i dont so it was more annoying and shoujo-es). I think this may have been cancled and rushed though due to how it ended

I think the part that shows this most is the second to last chapter when rin visits her mom. Through out the entire series, all 54 chapters, we were told that her dad was daikichi's grandpa. So its almost incest when she starts liking him. Then all of a sudden, boom you were adopted :D....WTF! ARE U SHITTING ME? that's the biggest cop out since ever. So many ways to end this and the author goes out of her fucking way just to have the mains end up together. FUCK THAT! its rushed, theres no feeling in it, and honostly it just feels weird since like 20 pages b4 he was acting like a normal parent. God im so glad i had stopped being connected with the characters at the time skip cause i couldnt imagine how pissed id be if i was still interested in the story and this shit happened.

Good concept, it is something I like. Definitely not something that happens in real life, but the characters and pretty much everything else is realistic in a slice of life sort of way. To a point I got bored.

Then somewhere around ch45

All of a sudden Rin feels something for Daikichi. That is just unbelievable. There were no hints of this at all, way too sudden, coming up out of nowhere. She even liked Kouki for the longest time. I could see it happening when I was reading, but put it off my mind soon, especially after the time skip. Then all of a sudden--- bam. I doubt it's true feelings or that it will last, since it occurred in the last two volumes.

Its rare that I'll look at a series and be willing to grade it perfectly. This however is one of those stories. Its simply too good to pass up. With humor and seriousness, its hard not to like all the characters, even the idiotic Daiki, who though his heart is right, still struggles doing whats best.

its speaking more to the male audience. the whole series is from the guy's pov of a cluless gyuy who suddenly has to care for a child. i say its more seinen than anything else.

I was in child development class in college when I started reading this manga. The milestones Rin as a child was just something I can relate through my books in class about children and their developmental minds. If it was solemly about Rin and Daikichi growing up together, I can say to strongly recommend this manga after many years.
If the middle of the manga series did not went to that route of having Rin's growing adulthood, I would have said this manga was very fresh. I sincerely regret recommending this manga to my peers in college, after what happened in the ending and reminder of the horrible trend of training brides!
Look up Woody Allen, this is all I thought after reading close to the ending of the manga.

The beginning half I give it a 10/10, the middle to ending a 0/10, so a 5 is fair to place.
