The Reaper (INKYO)

Description

Pyo Wol was an orphan who wandered around the continent until he bumped into a mysterious man and lost consciousness. When he wakes up, he finds himself in a dark, confined space with only one iron door for an exit. Wol survives the next several grueling months, trying to keep a cool head and stay in shape. When the iron door finally opens, he discovers he's not the only one in this miserable situation. A group of masked people has kidnapped 300 children to train them into human weapons. Wol must fight and kill the others, for only a handful of the strongest will be selected. Will Wol be able to become one of the chosen and find a way to free himself from his captors?

I highly recommend if you like shounen action with murim/martial arts and such. Art took some time to get used to but it's great and the action scene is pretty dope! Story is decent so far.

Revenge is a dish best served ice cold.

Compassion? Moderation? Morality? Self reflection? Who's she?

"An eye for an eye will make everybody blind?"

Hah. So, what?

No faction or person in this is anywhere near "good" or even "good enough". There's no one to root for. No one.

Amazing.

Finally, a story where the MC really IS as ruthless and as cold as a villain protagonist should be. The only reason he's not just a straight up villain is because everyone else is just as bad if not waaaay worse than him, and MC is...uh...not a nice person.

He has no redeeming qualities...except the barest minimum of courtesy he very, VERY rarely shows to anyone. Safe to say that if he's being "considerate" the person he's showing manners towards is 100% dead.

First part really interesting, second part boring slow and inconsequential, recomended up to the fall on the vipers nest. so? rated as an 8 then a 2.. so average is a 5.

Overall this is quite good but i feel that at times this is uselessly dragged, i think this is because author made our protagonist too powerful. For example : Some characters that our protagonist didn't finish off when he could, came back biting at him later or when our protagonist could have settled issues if he just explained or be a little more communicative (well can't be helped since this is in his character).
So far it looks like our protagonist is looking for emotion/human feelings (my personal opinion). He looks quite apathetic and detached most of times. Unlike other assassins, the protagonist possesses not merely great assassin skills but also great martial skills. He is also smart and have a good memory. For example he can decipher coded message almost instantly or memorize content by simply flipping books.
Appearance wise he is often described as more beautiful than any woman. His body is emanating an odor that make women feel hot. The more intense his feelings are, the stronger his body odor is (mentioned at c41 of the novel but it seems author forgot that point? Since if this is true he can be easily tracked down by assassins by following his odor). He had undying energy and sxual desire. So unlike other works, our protagonist here is sxually active.

For those who are curious if any other assassins survived :

The answer is Yes. One of them reappears at chapter 294 in novel.

Nice tragic MC story

The MC in this one undergoes the horrible experience of being forced to become a merciless killing machine. He had to kill dozens of other children only to survive. This has consequences both for him and his sense of self and for the bastards that did this.

The first arc is the training arc, the second arc is the revenge arc. The third arc is about him trying to reorient himself in the world after survival and revenge are not his only goal. Of course he is too powerful to be left alone and tragedy strikes again, but not to a ridiculous degree yet.

This isn't a happy series, but it is action packed and has many moments to satisfy the blood thirsty. The MC is really the type not to take shit from anyone, which is fun, but he isn't vicious or needlessly cruel. He probably killed innocent people, but not for fun or to make money.

the writing is like your imagination right before you head to bed. it's not detailed and it feels like they just meh when writing it. the characters are bland and flat.

Mc is supposed to be smart, but is he really?? For example, right after the failed mission. he could've used the girl's face as a disguise(the one that slept with the womanizer), yet he had to go that far to use a random farmer's face just to get caught and make things complicated. he wouldnt get caught if he disguise and escape on the spot.

addition to that, they kept adding in unnecessary information to readers for the sake of drama and emotions. it may leave a bit of impression to readers but itll be forgotten in the next chapter, needless to say it didnt give a big impact to the story.

maybe the author is not at fault here, but the adaption is so bad.

Edit: I just tried to reread, and most versions I found have chapters with missing pages. The novel is great; from chapter 300 onwards, some descriptions get tedious. Ex.: almost every POV has a "they could figure everyone out except the MC" and parts to quell the word count.

The first two arks are engaging with a satisfying conclusion. I've read up the 167 chapters of the novel, and it stays decent. After the revenge, the MC is a bit erratic, but the series stays good. As an adaptation, it's a bit poor; you can notice the recycled panels and how they skip some stuff whilst going into unnecessary detail on some conversations. I'm keeping my hopes up because it's based on a complete series.

Edit:I kept reading on, and it gets even more erratic.

he destroys a faction . I get that everyone's death means no witnesses, but after that, it gets a bit boring. I mean, the MC goes on a murder spree for a small provocation, and then some guys who are clearly going to thrash the city show up, and he does nothing until it explodes. I guess I'll catch up to this adaptation when they reach this arks conclusion and then leave it until they reach the part I read.

The start reminds me of chronicles of heavenly demon, but from the last training and also the objective of it does differ greatly

(I'm still secretly hoping he wasn't the only survivor) .
