A promising start and disappointing followthrough

I really liked this story at the start. A 30-yo Japanese businessman with next to no knowledge of war and the military joins a PMC out of desperation for money. He is shunted off to an unspecified Middle Eastern country and is left as an off-site commander of various squads in the area. They go into the dehumanizing aspects of war and he has numerous moral quandaries about what he's doing until he changes perspectives and decides to fight for the little guy. Then we hit chapter 17 and... Yikes.
One year is skipped forwards and the paradigm had completely changed. He has gone back to Japan through unexplained means and is using the child soldiers he was previously trying to free from war as his main manpower in his own PMC. The manga begins to glorify war and the battles the mc participates in because he is so good at commanding and is no longer concerned with the people he may harm. It also takes the main child soldiers, a 14 year old girl, and changes their relationship from one-sided crush to mutual. Gross.
Seriously, it feels like the author decided they just wanted to write a different manga and threw away anything that might be morally complex and ideas regarding actual tactics so they could instead write a fluff piece about how great their mc is at doing war and how all the women love him for it. A genuinely baffling change.

So good that despite only reading 3 chapters I'm giving it a rating. Of course this doesn't mean that it can't go sour later on, but its amazing from the little I've seen. No real battles have been seen yet and the MC is still in training, but its not boring at all, I really feel like I understand the characters and care about them. Can't think of another manga ATM that made me care about the characters so early and oh man, the hints of battles and real stakes in the future have me grovelling for more.
Read it, read it now. You'll have no regrets.
