this one felt like a very long ride, even though it was quite short and i binged the whole thing in a day. so many things occurred and made me think... and i loved it.
in Death's Game, we follow Yijae Choi, an unemployed, scammed, and dumped 31-year-old man who decides to commit suicide after living as a loser for his entire life. in his suicide note, he regards Death as an insignificant thing, leading the very pissed-off Death to punish him with a game in which he must live through 13 very different (and sometimes very messed-up) lives with imminent deaths.
of course, right off the bat we know that things aren't what they seem. through the thick and thin, we see Yijae's growth as a human being with each body he inhabits. the overall journey was a satisfying one, for we as readers see through Yijae's lens just how significant, dangerous, and painful death is. it is indeed not something to be toyed with or looked down upon.
this manhwa was a phenomenal work. i thoroughly enjoyed the premise and the execution of the plot; i loved how we were connected with every single one of the characters in some way, some of whom offered very potent emotional impacts. i became attached to some of them, hated other ones - i wished for some to live and others to die.
to say i was actively engaging with the story is an understatement. i was utterly submerged.
if you like survival games and action, i highly, highly recommend this manhwa. it is very well-written
despite the slightly rushed ending, which was a little underwhelming,
and is carried out in a brutal yet compelling manner.
