I somehow get a sense that all the stories in this manga is happening somewhere in Japan and other parts of the world. It's just I haven't been in or witnessed one. So it is somewhat real and bizarre, thus "surreal"?
All in all, I thoroughly enjoy this manga. It's so out-of-the-box, so unexpected. I.e. The main character's looks and behaviors indicate a poor-doing yankee... Surprise! He is hard-working, forward-looking and studying well to become an astronaut in all seriousness and hilarity. Also, he is not good-looking at all, silient type and somewhat a perverted teenage boy with troublesome and embarrassing friends whom he helps out from time to time because of his monstrous (OP) strength. This is character building, guys.
It's also episodic, nonchalant, doesn't take itself up too seriously - which can be a hit or a miss to certain readers. (I'm obviously the former one. Tbh, this work is a breath of fresh air in both art and story terms.)
The drawing and style might throw some people off though. But it's kind of real too. I mean, most mangas are pretty dolled up, glammed up. This one hits you in the face like a flying rock! People do look like these guys in real life!
So, who knows you might just like the heck out of it like me! All it takes are some years into mangas. Get bored. And voila, a gem!
I finished this as soon as the scanlation completed and almost forgot to write this up. So here I am!
P/s: If the sequel/prequel gets scanlated, I'm so in! Nuwang's translation is top-notched along with the editing from Illuminati-Manga. (Cue: Applause!)
