This is one of the best side stories I've ever read, normally side stories from other authors end in a weird way or making you think "What? Is that all?" or "what a waste of my time", but if you've read the main story and then found out about this one, you wont be disappointed. I give it a 9 because I wanted it to be longer 😛 .

As reivatin said, it makes you hope for more side stories like the ones he mentioned.

Well, Different from Drahken,
I'd say this one volume of manga is great
It served well as one of many past from Rain

I can't read kanji so i don't read the Light novel,
but from the Main manga itself it served well
it tells the tale of who is Sylvia (ch 43 last page), what of vampire, also why Rain said he himself killed Hawk

i love how this become one manga instead of a dragging chapter of the past (you can tell from obvious manga like Naruto and One Piece), so we can focus on main story on main manga, not part of some memories of Main Char
it's one story about Rain and the Vampire Master, no more dragging story,
he search for a new teacher to teach him magic, he found one, he help them, end of story

well, i'd love to see one or two more manga in this Gaiden like how is his training, how his relationship with the Vampire Master also for other more or less 500 more Girls (yeah Harem route here 😀 ),
but above all one volume is standing alone as his past and it tell well the story

If possible, I hope the Author will making more Gaiden about this (sorry for dragging comment, but i must tell how i feel : ) :

how he met with Leni (Dual wielding, seems have a great power but hiding it)
how he meet the "sword of peerless beauty" his sword
story with him after his osananajimi died, when he practice with his father (c'mon he is his parent, so he would be good)
how he meet Gunther and make him so loyal to him
the last is how He meet the Pegasus, CHris 😀 😀 😀

Disappointingly short

It had great potential, but it was frustratingly short & raised so many issues, only to leave them hanging. It makes the reader seriously wonder "wtf was the point?". It definitely felt like one which got axed long before the story was complete. If the loose ends are all part of the series that this is a side story to, then this would have been better off as a few chapters within that series instead of an independant one.
