Fushimi is literally retarded, or the author is just bad at writing. Fushimi continually does things that don't make sense, especially if he's trying to protect Toume.
For example, when he first meets the fox masked man, what does he do? Tells Toume to run away and then proceeds to use a wooden sword against someone who controls the Hitogata. It's obvious this guy is going to be stronger than the Hitogata. Yet he doesn't try to use Dakini's power. Instead he rushes in and gets killed like a mindless grunt in an FPS. Charge in against someone who is more powerful with the weakest weapon you can find instead of using the power next to you. Smart move shithead.
Fushimi does stupid shit like this over and over again as if he can't think and doesn't learn. This is obviously flawed writing by the author to create the desired situation without the author having to think logically on how to create the situation, why not just force it? Because it makes the story weak as fuck, that's why you don't force this shit.
Then you've got the antagonist all of a sudden explain everything to useless bystanders for no discernible reason. Sure, this happens in good manga as well but they've got way more going for them so I'm not pulled out of the story. Here, it's blatantly obvious because I was never able to get into the story, because of the illogical and flawed writing. So this point, which could have been overlooked, was not, and as a result became another glaring flaw.
I know I'm being a bit too harsh but one of my biggest pet peeves is a character who acts out of character, and by extension, a character that acts illogically. Fushimi establishes a strong motivation, want, desire, whatever you want to call it(protect Toume). But then he not only doesn't take the logical steps to protect Toume, he doesn't learn from his experiences and mistakes.
The writing is bad, but if he author had thought through some of the character actions and the dialogue, I think this manga could have been much better. It was on the cusp of being good with a couple crucial elements holding it back.
The art is really good, I'll at least give it that.
