Think about the worst combinations of romance Clichés and this book has then all.
- Hidden female lead/male lead childhood relationship.
- Hidden OP Female Lead
- Naïve/Stupid Overly-Positive Female Lead who I just wanted to Punch.
- Whipped pathetic Male Lead
- Cinderella like background
- Dragon Companions
- Cheats out the Wazoo
- Self-Sacrifice / Can do no wrong Female Lead
- Stepping all over other peoples happiness for your own.
- Taking no responsibility for how their direct/indirect actions affect others
- Ending twist you saw coming 20+ chapters back.
I really hated both the Male Lead and Female Lead (the FL more just because she is just a nothing character). They were both just so unlikable.
What I hate about the 2 main characters: Male Lead
The Male Lead had a horrible temper and lashed out not only at his own friends but innocent people as well. He is a villain. His burst of rage got himself into trouble on more then one occasion, and if it wasn't for the fact that he was a high powered divine power users, and the author made some throw away excuse for him getting away with murder, he should have been in jail. … Treason.. what a PG word for murder. The Female Lead was literally a horrible influence on him. In fact, he was no better then the Female Lead's father... who lost his mind after losing his wife. AND HE WAS A VILLAIN! (at least the book was smart enough to make that comparison)
What I hate about the 2 main characters: Female Lead
And the way the Female Lead put all the blame on Mervine, taking no responsibility for how she changed the future is so frustrating. First she was a push over doing incredibly stupid things and feeling guilt for things she shouldn't, then she goes the opposite direction and take 0 responsibility when some of the blame is hers. (not all of it, but some) And she just in general has no personality to like.
The stories attempt at a Villain:
In season 1, I was ready for the Original Female Lead to become the villainess with all her drama queen stealing everything that is mine talk. But then in season 2... the female lead did cause Mervine to lose everything. Lulutia is the Villainess of Mervine's story. I hated this idea so much. And yes, if Mervine had more foresight she could have adjusted her plans to help Glen in different ways, but the vision she got of what the future originally was messed with her head... why did she get those visions? Was it the Goddesses doing? If so, what a bitch, because Mervin only went crazy after that, before she was just crafty/scheming to get what she needed. And in that regard, if she had not gone obsessed with the story going off track, she could have schemed some way for Glen to still get the throne.
The Real Villain:
The cause and effect of the cheats that Lulutia got literally ruined someone else.. more then just someone else's life. Mervine's was ruined, Glen was killed, lot of people probably died in the rebellion they glossed over. All because the Goddess was bios. So wrong. If she couldn't make happiness for everyone with her meddling (at least those not involved with evil acts), she should have stayed out of it and let nature run its course.
Ending:
So many lose ends. Did Cronus & Sui get together. What about the other knights? Did Jerios and his dad make up? What of Alt, he was barely touched. Did Diold die from the Fathers experiments? What was the condition of the FL's mother after she opened her eyes? Were all those experiments worth it? What was with the corruption thing the ML experienced? The knights acted like it was a known issues, but that only he experienced it. So what was the background of it? They never discovered how Prince Glen was killed. What happen to Mervine? Did she give the recipe to the Pope because she felt it was the right thing to do before jumping from a cliff? Or was that a scene of her just lamenting? I feel like the end of the book was super rushed, so all those ideas got abandoned. Which again... made an already subpar book... just infuriating.
Conclusion:
I mean the book was hard enough to read because of its heavy handed clichés.. and then season 2 just make it so much worse because I can't help but see Lulutia as a villain now. So I don't even get my Super Cliched Everyone has a Happy Ending, ending in this super cliched book. Why did I read this ><
- Mad I read it: Yes
- Would I re-read: NO
- Recommend it: NO
