So far, I expected more from this.

I started this because it was high up on the Qidian charts for most popular novels in 2015.

Alas thus far it does not meet my expectations. It's not bad, perhaps a decent read according to some. But there's really nothing standing out to me.

More importantly the author's writing style is either inexperienced or plain boring at times.
Most of the time he does a decent job. Especially so during important story arcs. But there are also some training arcs that are written especially dull. It's like he's trying to sum up in order to save time. It basically reads identically to a summary of events on a wiki page. It's dull.

Character development is practically non-existant. (@ ch117)
It's your average run-of-the-mill development. Overly perfect MC, who is wronged again and again for no reason at all.
There's a little more character development to the side characters. But don't take my word for it, as I won't claim it's major or even convincing.

Overall it's a decent snack or side dish. Wouldn't expect too much from it. Still, there's over 1400 chapters. Since the ranking was for 2015, there's a good chance it'll improve and/or even blow your mind if you stick around. Definitely will watch this, and read in batches of 100 chapters or so.

I have read quite far into this novel (75% done) and skill taken by it. Xianxia genre's adventures made by MC often follow a certain loop... like, MC is powered up by various reasons: "MC discovers a secret dungeon", "MC accidentally comes across a powerful items/ amazing power up item"... and yes, this novel too, the circumstances the MC encountered, are similar to each other and yep, is a loop.
But I'm amazed at how good the author's writing skill is. Although it is kinda easy to predict the situation, but the way he wrote it and the way he made the MC solved it is satisfiying and exciting. In some other novel of the same genre, the protagonists either too cold (or "cool"?) or too smart, or too taken by leveling up that all we see is fighting fighting, lvling lvling etc and I feel like they are not really human. Well, ofcourse they aren't, they are super-human, the authors often forgot to put in them "personalities". This MC has personality, not too unique, but acceptable and distinguishable.

So a good xianxia novel, by my definition, is not about lvling or powering up, but about the way MC solves his problems and the way he treats his relationship with different kinds of people on his way to being superman, the way he solves the contradictions between "being a superman" and "a heart that is still of a man". Also, the idea of the "world" they are in and the adventures they made.

Considering all elements, this series deserves at least 8,5 by my own standard. But because it is one that treats relationship between people carefully, not just putting in random scarecrows to demonstrate MC's power, I will give a 10.

To bakaleaf: It's, ahem, not only about romance. And if you care about romance in this novel, I will give a spoiler to your 'loop":

1. Story of 1st girl has not finished yet. And up to 75% done, still not finished. The author tends to put relationships here and there in the story and when we least expect it, he make them pop out. And what? 1st girl didn't dump MC because her 'best friend" wanted MC. It's because her friend caused a misunderstanding between them, 1st girl misunderstood MC and made a mistake.
2. 4th and 5th are not even his girl? Just some random people he encoutered in his adventures.
3. There will be more to come, but in general he doesn't see the girls he meets as his girls. There are even some very ineteresting circumstances. But still, MC is a faithful person.

The Gate of Good Fortune!? pfft... I rather call it "The Gate of Misfortune!"

As I wanna badly change the tittle since its clearly a trap from the author.
This novel can only be describe in 1 word and its TRAGIC.

The author has a bad habit of showing an OP mc who encounter a life and death battle but still very very weak in various simple circumstances

To sum it up this is the kind of novel which one should not take to much expectation
The authors seems to aim to make your hopes high then crash it.

As for me I am reading this just to pass time since other might not see it
but for me all I can see is a never ending Loop

This Loop contain some spoiler read it at your own risk

What Romance? This novel has no chance of any romance to develop as Author separate MC with any women he encounter and this go down all over again and again! its so annoying to the point where when you read a part where MC meet a female character you well already know that by the end of the arc mc well get separated by them
MC meet a girl --> MC stays with the girl for awhile ---> By the end of the volume the MC and the girl will then be separated by forces so ridiculous can't help but get annoyed.
1st girl (original world) dump MC because her Best friend wanted MC for herself.
They got separated after MC was hit by a Huge meteor! so funny when you think about it again.
2nd girl (other world Fiancee) has a disfigure face but so far the most decent girl in this novel. They got separated because her unknown powerful aunt appeared and force them to separate. later This aunt well sell this girl to another sect for the sake of connection(If you know what I mean). Worst part is This girls mother is an adulturer who killed her father. MC discover this and now her mother plot against MC saying MC rape her.. tsk tsk tsk I was really releasing huge killing intent towards the author when I discover about this since as I said this 2nd girl is the most decent girl for me.
3rd girl (other world nun) The girl who save MC life.
They got separated since MC left her to a school for her own good (based on MC) and then the school tried to kill MC (yup serves you right, should have just killed MC here)
4th and 5th girl (Other world Btches?) why I include them? I feel that they are a good romantic partner for mc.
(4th girl is a Slth who sleep with different man touch by MC kindness)
(5th girl came from a brothel and was auction later bought by MC)
4th girl got separated since MC was to weak to help her out
5th girl got separated since MC became a shield so the girl can escape the enemy
6th girl? coming soon but as one can see from 1st to 5th girls we can expect that they well be separated again by the author! This Loop is already Tiring for me so I barely read this novel

As for the action it was quite normal the so called Life and Death fight
As for the MC journey? author has a bad habit of making MC lost from his original path.

So the Story goes in this Loop so Far Chapter 79
MC Girl -->Power Up -->Life and Death Battle --> separated from the girl

How the author make MC very weak in front of other sect is really impressive as you can really feel how useless the MC is especially when MC is force to separate from the girls

And so I don't recommend other reader to have some expectation on this novel.
It's a good read to pass time that I can guarantee (I run out of novel to read only then did I have the time to take a glimpse of this lol)
