Yes, it is dark, toxic, and warped. But I'm extremely impressed it delivers a compelling psychological horror in only 7 chapters. The side chapters do add more, but the main story alone really does wrap up the narrative satisfyingly. (I don't like when stories aren't actually finished and the "side" chapters are actually necessary to finish the plot, it feels misleading.)
A few great reveals and twists to the narrative really got my heart racing and anxiety up. Yes, it's technically labeled "smut" and there is graphic sex in it, but to me it's definitely more plot with porn than the other way around (PWP). It's used well to keep ramping up the horror and tension
between Agatho and Noah, Agatho and the cult, Noah and the cult, AND Noah with his own psyche. It feels like a delicate balance on all sides until the final thread snaps and everything collapses into chaos and death. You'd think the cult is the biggest hurdle, but Noah's delusional and obsessed mind becomes the thing neither Agatho nor Noah can overcome.
As someone else commented, maybe it's nothing revolutionary. But the creator really did utilize their elements to create a great story. The pacing is good, there's no excess filler, and they used each of the 7 chapters very well. The setting is appropriately unsettling. I felt invested in the characters quickly and wanted to see the outcome, even if the journey is upsetting and the ending unhappy. The few moments of the highest hope are also the highest moments of horror, and it left me conflicted on what I'm even rooting for anymore. Well done.
