Firstly I have to comment on the review below. I do not think it is fair to judge a LN after 8 chapters especially Wuxia. Many Wuxia novels focus chapter upon chapters on training, battles, learning new skills, power ups, killing everything in sight and then focus on human interaction to fill those gaps. This is not a slice of life, this is running for your life and brutal massacres within the first 15 chapters.
Now after reading 40 chapters. My impression is a good one. It was slightly slow reading the first few chapters, but then it starts to pick up after that and quickly becomes something you will struggle to stop reading. (chap 1-5 not best intro, not going to lie I almost dropped it on chapter 2 but luckily I didn't and things got interesting)
MC is ruthless, one of my favourite types of MC but also cares about his family/friends and doesn't needlessly harm. This LN reminds me of Coiling Dragon, Against the gods, Martial God Asura and very closely resembles Xian ni.
During the ranking tournament to advance to core disciples, when he is attacked ringside by one of the top 5 inner court disciples as revenge for his scum bag little brother. In "Self Defence" he completely overpowers the disciple and then completely cripples him and removes his cultivation in front of everyone (very Chu Feng). Same tournament he is looked down upon but not insulted or attacked with ruthless intentions by another disciple, during the fight he simply shows the difference in power and lets the disciple off unharmed.
The MC seems to be somewhat of a loner. While he has a close friend and his family, there is not much initial interaction with them. The interactions start to increase as his power grows and the plot development is good. Unfortunately he doesn't start with a pet or travelling companion or a romantic counterpart, which would give a subtle side plot for the character to gain more depth. I do not believe the MC has been given enough depth in the initial chapters which is the only let down here.
The current translator is doing a good job and has begun allowing donations for bonus chapters. Speeding up the process with regular releases alongside.
It might not be for everyone as we all like LN's for different reasons but it is still a very good piece in my eyes. I would suggest giving this a read for anyone who enjoyed the following;
Martial God Asura
Xian Ni
Battle Through the Heavens (Doupo Cangqiong)
Coiling Dragon / Stellar Transformations / Desolate Era
Against the Gods
While currently I don't believe it to be on the same level as some of the classics listed, it is still close enough to be enjoyable.
