I loved Tail of the Moon so I thought I’d give this series a try! The artwork is gorgeous. And... that’s about the only good thing I can say.
I have never hated a manga before today. Some I didn’t like, it was boring, disgust, whatever, but never flat out hated it. This manga will have a special place in my... well, I’ve never forget it, that’s for sure. This wasn’t even the haha that’s so dumb it’s hilarious kind of horrible. It’s why the hell did the mangaka waste her life drawing this filth horrible. How did I finish it? I’m crazy and I sacrificed some brain cells. So where do I begin?
Everyone is stupid. I really mean it, they’re all dumb! The choices people make in this series is mind bogglingly stupid. 99% of all the drama could’ve been avoided if everyone made common sense decisions.
But there’s no fun in that! Fine, you know what is fun? Crazy people. Everyone is. Sumi is crazy, and stupid. Souichiro is bipolar and crazy. The bad guy Nozo or whatever is psychotic and stupid. His wife Moi or whatever? Pathetic, batshit crazy, and stupid. The butler! The brother! The emoployees!
The only sane ones where the kids!
Sumi is a perfect little Mary Sue angel that can do no wrong. She’s so perfect she took the enjoyment out of the story. “Oh I’m being treated like trash by everyone yet again! I kill them with kindness so everyone loves me and I’m perfect and I’ll be perfectly happy yaaah world peace”
Barf.
Souichiro is trash. The way he treats Sumi is disgusting and it makes the manga hard to read at times. Hate how toxic and possessive he is, and his personality change half way through makes me want to be sick. He had no redeeming qualities and especially for the second half, was the biggest joke of everyone. At least Sumi got stuff done, kinda. They’re both useless, tbh.
The bad guy! How? He’s a whole experience. Over the top and so stupid! I was laughing at how ridiculous he’d be, until he got malicious and rapey. That wasn’t so funny. It was annoying. Someone needed to take off their belt and give him the spanking he never got as a child. Cause that’s what he was. A child. Some as his stupid wife! Moi is such a horrible example of a female character. Like the rest of the story, that is not how you make a female character! Gtfo of here
The butler started ok descent, but like every single character in this story, aside from Sumi, is a horrible person. For pretty much the entire story. Everyone is horrible. Everyone.
The brother was one character who got better towards the end, but the ending was so rushed you couldn’t really see the ONLY bit of character development in the entire story. Shame. And the maid vanished into nothing, along with more than half of the subplots!
Nothing is resolved in the end. Because the end was so rushed. Half the characters are forgotten or just smile at the end, so that means their stories are resolved, right?!
How could the ending be rushed when the story drags for so long? How does she take nine volumes and drag out ridiculous, pathetic, idiotic drama, and then shuts everything down in a single final chapter? Shuts everything down, and if it doesn’t involve Sumi and Souichiro telling each other I love you, it’s a forgotten subplot that vanishes forever.
Guess it was good enough to finish?! I more finished it out of spite than anything. I should’ve drop it when I first sensed it was going to be a shitshow manga, but once you hit volume 5 it just goes off like a hose, spraying everything down, it seems to going somewhere, it seem like it knows what it’s doing, but it’s just getting everything wet. And it’s not spraying in the garden, it’s in your living room. And there’s live wires everywhere. <——- see how ridiculous that was? That’s basically the entire manga summed up right here.
Sumi jumping off the cliff, I almost threw my iPad across the room. Dumb. So dumb. Nozo being a rapist was bad, but him stopping simply because he’s still married? Like when did he ever give a shit about his vows? How come Souichiro lost everything when he quit his job? Everything. Gone. Overnight.
And he accepted being poor so easily because he suddenly loves Sumi. That happened overnight. How come everyone got a happy ending? How the hell does Nozo and his psycho wife get a happy ending after all the shit they put everyone through? What happened to the evil maid? Sure, she was as horrible as the rest of them, but mama got shit done.
Sumi and Souichiro HAD to have sex at that moment. All the chances before, all the chances after, but that felt like the perfect time to them? I don’t know which was more nauseating to witness, them going at it at the worst possible time or Nozo running around with that ax like in the shining.
Seriously?! She was left in the garden as a baby, and THAT’S the reason she’s afraid of roses?! Like terrified, PTSD reactions. Cause she was left, in the garden. Why?! So much WHY
The artwork is the only good thing about this. It was amazing, especially the female characters. There’s one part towards the end where I had to stop and stare at the art. Sumi was literally gorgeous, when she was being nauseatingly perfect. Too bad there hadn’t been a gorgeous story to go with the art.
I loved Tail of the Moon. I don’t see myself reading anything else by this mangaka ever. Again.
