Description

Reborn as the daughter of a count she read about in a novel, Lady Valeta knows the story ends in tragedy at the hands of her lowly house pet, Reinhart. Having never wanted him in the first place, Valeta tries but fails to oust him from her house. But when Reinhart's powerful magic is awakened one day, he kills all those around her, and it is now Valeta who is at his mercy. I loved every bit of this manhwa. After reading the main stories I have a wishlist of things I’d like to see expanded upon, but this series was very enjoyable. Even the side characters made me happy. My only issue is “punk”. They said it waaaaay too much. Eventually they threw in a couple “scumbag”s, but just know that if we’d all played a drinking game to drink every time the word “punk” came up, we’d all be dead.

The art was good-ish (that’s what caught my eye), but I couldn’t read it anymore than 20 chapters bc the FL is so dry and bland. A unchanging face of disgust and blank uncaring—which, I mean is a part of her character (hopefully it got better but I’m not willing to find out). The ML is supposed to be devious and cunning but to me it reads as edgy neck-breather that never saw the sun. Why so pale bruh?! Even from the get go the FL is severely overpowered and I don’t have enough faith that the author is crafty enough to explain away the bad choices characters make in a cohesive way. Nor do I think that the author is particularly good at writing. I got the gist of the whole story from just reading 20 chapters, but seeing that the whole story was 100+ chapters…. Damn, I feel bad for the people that stuck with it.

Unlike other reviewers, I actually really liked the character development. The way the relationship between the ML & FL progressed felt organic. The two growing from seriously damaged people to healthier (the emphasis on -er) people who can go beyond just functioning in survival mode to actually enjoying life. A supporting cast that never lost faith in them and their potential for growth. A cute as heck spiritual animal. And an utterly twisted ultimate villain. There are a couple of very tragic figures.

It's mostly a heavy read. The lightness came from the bickering between the ML and FL. I loved their bickering.

The artwork is good. The visual narrative is quite good. Some might have a difficult time with the pacing, which at times felt slow but narratively motivated.

The AU is a very different story. It contains only the most bare bones connection to the seemingly ill-fated connection between the ML and FL. I find it actually quite compelling.

Lastly, the AU hangs a lantern that illuminates the FL's determination to gain autonomy, strength, self-sufficiency, purpose, and ultimately a peaceful happiness. I can definitely applaud that.

Great start, but became too shojo-ey

I really liked this in the first half, but didn't agree with the romantic route it took, and then the development kind of fell apart. It became really fluffy and the FL+ML combo was just too over powered. Between the ML softening (and losing his yandere status) and the doting Duke's, it was too sappy, serendipitous, and slightly childish for a Josei novel. It was a mistake following with this after Lady Devil.

Originally I didn’t have high hopes for this story due to the dark themes, but it was actually much better than I expected.
While not for the faint of heart as our MCs aren’t the only ones to suffer in this corrupt and dark world, it’s well written story with realistic character growth.

It starts very dark and bloody, and the origin stories of both the FMC and MMC are tragic. To understand their relationship and progress as people one needs to understand they were both abused from childhood and are broken people. But this story, is a story of overcoming and as time passes they become more normal and the story becomes nicer and more wholesome.

Dark stuff still happens, but our main characters become more lovable and they meet more and more people that aren't horrible disgusting people.

Nothing here is ground breaking, but the art is very good, and the story is above average, and this is about as much as can be expected.

Everyone is tortured and abused. The FL loves to jump into danger and put herself in the hands of abuser(s). If you don't mind/like this type of stuff, maybe this is for you. Just continuous torture and abuse. The story hasn't really gone anywhere in the last few episodes idk why I read this until 90 or so chapters LOL

sept 2023: i'm a sucker for the yandere ML, i'm guilty about that.
the daddies are cute, and i love how caring they were to FL.
interesting alchemist plot.

i find the character designs unique since i don't mix them up with someone else's story.
so far, i like how everything is going in the 2 seasons. -- 8

apr 2024: omg it ended. the translation is likely the reason why i got confused midway of the story. it's still good tho. i only lived for the ML and FL's moments. (i just love the MLs design) -- 7.5

generally an okay read if youre into alchemy + yandere + politics plot

apr 2025: bruh, the alternate universe had me hooked hahaha so I'm putting it back at 8.
