I have noticed from a lot of people talking on the boards that people drop series based on trivial reasons, such as slow release rate or dislike of a single aspect of the manga, despite them clearly saying they like the rest of the manga.

So, I pose this question: Are you a fickle reader? What does it take for you to drop a series?

yeah i probably am.... if i dont like the main character, i'll drop it.....or if i don't like atleast 3 characters, i'll drop it.....i just really can't get into a manga if the characters aren't good to me....

I've only ever dropped a series when it continued to ignore characters I like and continued to focus more and more on characters I didn't like (Naruto).

Other than that I rarely drop anything that has grabbed my attention.

I wouldn't say I'm fickle when it comes to dropping stuff well into it, but I'm selective when picking stuff to begin with. I usually only go for series that sound appealing to me, and if they don't grab me in the first two-three chapters I don't force myself any further.

I've never dropped a series due to slow release rate, since I don't really care how quickly I get updates as long as I get them eventually.

Simple:
When I get bored of it.

I dropped Rave Master at around volume 20, I just couldn't stand it anymore despite all the kicking ass. I guess it just lost its spark after a while.

(Oh my god, I feel fickle.)

I only drop things if they start getting stupid, although if I have less then 10 volumes left I'll generally force myself through it. Yeah, but I hate it when a series degrades, specially if it was awesome at the start.

No i'm not, what's that look for huh? Honest, jeez... just cuz i drop a few doesn't mean i'm a fickle reader. Of course there's a good reason to it, well mostly it's because the plot becomes worst or repetitive mad

There are times i drop the manga cuz the plot started to annoy the hell out of me(always happen in smut manga). I'm a patient kinda person so i don't mind the wait for new release(besides the fact that i'm dead poor and can't afford to buy imported ones sad ).

Then there is the classic case of scanlation group disclosure, and they are the only one who scanlated that particular manga or the manga was licensed and they had to drop it from the list of their working project. Well, in that case, i don't think i had any choice. But if the series have potential to be scanlated in the future, i'm still keeping it bigrazz

Hm, it takes a lot to make me drop a series. I don't like to leave open what I started even if it's weak plot or bad character developmet.

As for slow releases... sure, they're annoying especially when it's a not so interesting series but in that case I simply put them on hold till either a whole volume was released or till the series is complete scanlated.

I stopped reading Air Gear also. It was just boring to me. Vampire Knight was dropped because a) Didn't like the art b) Didn't really like the characters c) The plot drove me insane (and not in the lovey dovey way O_o). Meru Puri got boring even though I only had a couple of chapters til the end of the series. Finally, the only series I think I've been "fickle" about is Flame of Recca. It's like 500 chapters. And it's finished DX. Couldn't bring myself pass Volume 1.

same here, even down to the rave master. (for death note is was two volumes before the end) sometimes i do come back and finish series though

@alex- on flames of recca, it becomes a completely different series after the first few volumes, a tourney/fighting shounen similar to yuyu hakusho(dont know if that changes anything, just fyi)

I don't really drop manga much, unless I find myself kind of dreading reading it. dead

Occasionally I'll drop a series because it just goes on too long (Inu Yasha...) or isn't scanlated and I don't have the money to buy the English release, or it's not scanlated any more at all, but I really really hate quitting something in the middle so generally I'll keep reading as long as possible.

I was born fickle....
I haven't even decided how I wanna die yet.

As for manga.... simple... I drop it if I don't like it.
Sometimes I tend to forget about a title if the releases take way too long to come out.... but if I don't remember, then I guess it wasn't really that good to begin with.

I have never dropped a series yet, even if I start finding a manga boring I'll continue to read it to the end...

I have dropped a few ... though I usually read on even when the series is annoying me, I always bookmark the last chapter I was at so I can come back to it at some point in the future.

Slow release rate does irritate me... but logically thinking I can understand that it takes time for it to be made and translated. What really makes me consider dropping a series is stuff like...

1) Annoying/Uninteresting Protagonist(s)
2) The plot is slow develop
3) Sorta goes with the plot thing, but how some manga have chapters that stray off the main plot for too long
4) Long series with like 500+ chapters... Naruto seems to be getting close... lol
