(warning, long post and probably some spoilers biggrin )

Let's put together what we know about the vampires in Hellsing:

#1 they're immune to the UV ( "Sun doesn't harm me. I simply hate it." <- Alucard, don't remember which volume, probably the one with elevator action chapter )
It's a quite big difference when we compare Hellsing vampires with other vamps, for example from Anne Rice books. Actually, almost in every movie/book/manga vampires are dead afraid of the sun...
In the end, is that difference good or bad for the mangaconfused

#2 they don't have to drink blood daily ( Victoria restraining herself from drinking for a long time, Alucard drinking whenever he felt like it ), but they get weaker with every day of "diet" laugh

Well, ok...that's more like the regular vampire image we're used to. But how was Victoria able to keep herself from drinking for such a long time? Don't the young vamps usually have a really scary apetite?
Is this still realistic or not?

#3 they can get seriously hurt by holy objects ( silver from a cathedral cross, father Anderson's knives )

No changes here.

#4 master/father - servant/child relation ( as usual )

#5 how about the garlic? ( that's actually another question, as I don't remember )

#6 they seem to...breathe? or at least they're sighing laugh

That's not all, of course. I count on you guys to list a lot more interesting things about Kouta Hirano's vampires, as they seem to be the quite original ones!

(actually I still can't believe, that this is the first topic on Hellsing's forum...even though the manga and anime are so damn popular)

What interests me (the most :x) is wheter all the wampires have rule like Alucard - changing only virgins into vampires? Because I recall that pair of crazy vampires at the beginning of Hellsing (the ones that murdered families, drove on a bike etc.) and they well.. they didn't seem to be virgins. Just so, y'know...
Or is it 'each to his own', each one with his/hers rules about changing? (Something like Ventrue drinking blood of a specified group of people in Vampire RPG)

Weren't they born of a relationship between a human and a vampire? o__o

Then what about Victoria? Alucard changed her.

She was a virgin. <__<
Thus she was turned into a
full-fledged vampire.

Yeah, I know that. What I'm asking is wheter all vampires changed only virgins, or was it only Alucard's quirk. Maybe others changed, I dunno, vegetarians or something?

I suppose it is the virgin thing so that it would be mystical. XD
It could be that only archvampires like Alucard can do that. <_<

Stop those damn long quotes or I'll bite your heads off bigrazz

Integra said that it requires a virgin to make a vampire. And she was a specialist in this topic bigrazz

I think that the old vampires had some other origin. But what type?
The idea of Alucard being a virgin...oh my dead

Sorry to break it down to you... but hellsing and manga in general are hardly what I'd call realistic...
But yeah... I see what you mean. On the other hand, I love the way vampires are portrayed in hellsing. That seeming invincibility is cool. Traditional vampires are way too fragile...

@Layhe, first of all, that rule seems to apply to everyone. remember the priest in the beginning? He explicitly said he didn't want to risk having Seras turn into a vampire. The vampire couple may have more than one explanation though:
Spoiler (highlight to view)
1. and most likely: They where artificially created by millennium... so that rule doesn't apply... the same way it did not apply to all the vampires from millennium (including Walter)
2. They have to be virgins to become vampire... they don't have to keep it after... so they might have only met after they where turned into vampires... (but as I said I believe in the first theory more... but still think they don't have to keep it after... Imagine all eternity to keep it? that is horrible torment!)

it was stated that when a vampire bites a virgin, he or she would turn into a vampire, if not a virgin, it becames a ghoul.... that couple was an experiment from millenium, they were trying to create vampires from non- virgins and ghouls from virgins...

Hmm, I see. Thanks for pointing that out to me smile. Looks like I have to read Hellsing again, I've read it so long ago *sigh*

@Stealth - as to your second point about that couple - lol, exactly what someone and I concluded xD

and about garlic, the sun and others traditional vampiric weaknesses, the vampires from hellsing also have them, its just alucard who's powerful enough to resist them, if i remember right, it was said that the bullets hellsing uses has gralic essence inside, and the in the ship episode the vampires comented that they could never walk on the sunlight again and alucard also said with an emphasis that the sun wasn't HIS worst enemy, HE just hated it, toshow that better just remember that they had to stuff seras in a coffin to transport her trough the ocean (vampires can't cross running water) while alucard went normally like a normal person, i think that is all..... bigrazz

This is true... But it's not JUST Alucard that doesn't have them. Any vampire that gets strong enough doesn't have them anymore. I think all "normal" vampires (like Alucard and Seras) eventually can become as strong as Alucard. It just needs time and a loooot of blood. Probably Seras now, won't be as scared of the sun as before. On the other hand... the Millennium Artificial vampires have no room for evolution. They stay at the strength level they where created at. But we did see that some of them where able to stand the sun somehow.
