Description
In a post apolyptic world devoid of seasons, where man's "golden age of technology" ruined earth and caused science to run amok, there live four individuals looking for a door to the hell far below the surface. Through a series of coincidences, the ex-hitman-now-bartender Mihai, the deranged and psychopathic Haine, the vengeful yet kind Naoto, and the freelancer Badou meet one another.

Agreeing with wait321 by LUEser on October 15th, 2009, 7:53am

Like wait321 said, the prequel was nice. There was actually reason for fighting; all the characters (Mihai, Badou, Haine, and Naoto) were beautifully drawn and they come from different but tragic backgrounds. But then this goes on to the sequel, Bullets & Carnage, and everything and everyone's stories got mixed up and spinned out of control.
And just like wait321 said, there were a lot of empty panels. When I first read it, I thought that the translators must've just erased them but I figured they'd go out of business if they do that. Every panel after I started reading the sequel was plain and you get the general idea why everyone was fighting but it wasn't such a strong reason. The beliefs aren't reasonable, and they're just fighting because they're "bored" and they want to have "fun". I'm sick of every single fight solely for that reason.

Awesome! My new read! by draconia11 on September 20th, 2008, 4:40pm

The art is so clean and has good style. it makes me wish I could draw manga! The story is awesome too. The prequal gave very good backstories for every character and made me want to keep reading on! This is at least a 9.5

This manga, by itself, is a decent collection of short stories. The characters are fairly entertaining and humorous. There's almost no background for the characters, but that's not much of a problem for these short stories.
However, the entire series (this manga and its sequels) is rather poor. The insufficient backgrounds and poor storytelling makes it impossible to get interested in the series. Also, the artwork quality falls considerably in the sequel - tons of blank panels and panels with no backgrounds.
I recommend that you stop at this manga and just treat this a set of short stories. Don't read the sequels unless you enjoy pointless fights and not knowing what the story is.

The art's nice, the characters aren't typical or cliched and there's interesting personalities, what more can you want? Did I mention, an interesting post apolyptic story filled with the struggles and lives of each character? Good story. And worth your time.

Rare and lovely. by pearlesque on July 16th, 2007, 10:34pm

There are plenty of post-apocalyptic stories out there, but this one's edgy enough and sardonic enough to hold my attention. Plus, the art is beautiful and the character designs are absolutely stunning.
It's a must to read the sequel and the side-story as well, in order to get a proper feel for this universe... But whoa, what a universe it is! A bunch of rag-tag misfits, ranging from orphaned assassins to chain-smoking slackers to haunted guinea pigs -- they all come together in a quaint little cafe, to talk about work and about who to kill next.
Each character is unique, and doesn't fit completely into any of the usual manga archetypes. It's so refreshing and wonderful to read about people as layered and complex as these folks. The ass-kicking is kinetic and absorbing, but it's the characters that make it fun.
Lovely manga!
