Im looking for a manga or anime where the almost whole main cast pretty much dies midway through the series and the survivors are either really depressed or want revenge and form a new, stronger team. I guest something like gantz or Ubel Blatt. No BL and needs a atleast a few female characters. Some romance and/or ecchi if possible (but thats probably not going to be possible, but still if there is please post!)

Totally Agree with strix Berserk is awesome for this and I love it for the revenge aspect, ok, I love it for everything, art, character development, dark fantasy, and especially the relationship that the main character has with his comrades and the totally messed up and plot twisting way in which they die. Also the relationship between the main character and the antagonist is totally unique and awesome. It's kind long, and I found the first couple arcs (i.e. golden age arc) to be not as exciting as the later ones (at least until the totally messed up death scene) but stick with it and you will be rewarded with one of the greatest manga to ever be made. Just be warned, the author is notorious for irregular release schedule. Sometimes it's a month, sometimes it takes 6 mos (or more!) i read on some forums that apparently Kentaro Miura is busy playing those idol role playing games or whatever and is easily distracted (plus he draws all the art himself with only a few assistants, and some of the best art I ever seen) ok, I will stop raving.

Some of the top rated mangas here which I read and can recommend are:

- Vinland Saga (sienen, awesome, great art, lots of violence in general)
- Attack on Titan (Sienen/shounen, this is now an anime, character wants revenge for death of family, but lots of comrades die too, great story like, great art, unique)
- Blade of the Immoral (sienen, main character is helping other main character get revenge for death of family, he also has sort of revenge reasons for going after antagonist too. Contains lots of characters with great relationships and very expressive awesome artwork, plenty of violence/fighting)
- Green Blood (Sienen, same author that did "Rainbow" which is also awesome manga, main character is bad-@ss, set in five points NYC during early 1900s gang era, w also "wild west themes". main C is getting revenge for death of mother, awesome art, violence/fighting)
- Ichi The Killer Okay, don't mind the cover art, because it's completely different in the manga, waaay better (this is probably THE most messed up manga I have read, but still great, seriously, not for weak stomach super twisted characters. (they also made a live action movie which I didn't see but heard the adaptation was pretty bad, don't know tho, didn't see it) Anyway, The tables are turned in this one because its the main antagonist (a yakuza) who is absolutely obsessed with getting revenge against the main character, who is a mentally deranged high school boy serial killer that killed the antagonists "Aniki" (his boss who is like an older brother) . Okay so maybe you noticed Sienen is my favorite and maybe I have messed up taste because I read many people had to stop reading this manga cause they thought it was so messed up. For me, the more violent and messed up the better! haha.

I guess one with ecchi would be "Elfin Lied" which, again, violent. Lots of blood, body parts flying (heehee, violence + cute barely clothed girls) it's an anime and manga, both are good. Involves experimentation and MC is a girl, but she's again she's super violent & ruthless in her revenge, which is against the crazy scientist that did horrible things to her and her fellow captives. Some romance also.

- Homunculus Maybe a little outside your criteria, but also involves some revenge, another manga that is unique that I loved. but it's not really violent (unless you count people getting holes drilled into their skull, lol) there isnt any killing involved because the revenge part is more about the MC rebelling against society, and the guy is totally nuts in a really twisted way ( he eats his own, ahem, "man juice" and has a wierd relationship with his car). Ok, but it's not as bad as it sounds, it's more of a scene in which you go "man, this guy is meeeesssed up!" There's also another character in this that is sort of gender bender, (likes to drill holes in people's skulls) but it's not the main character. All the "sexy" parts are straight dude+girl. I really liked this manga and recommend it, also Sienen...but again, it's very unique, so maybe not for everyone, but for me, it's one of my favorites. Also great art on realistic side.

Lastly, (both a manga & anime, but I just saw the anime) if you want to see a more lesser known, cult favorite, (but still great IMO) is Speed Grapher this time it's the antagonist that is out for revenge, again, against society and also some killing/murder, plus a messed up weird sexual party/ritual scene with some cult members doing bad things to the girl character (but main character is guy, she's more like his side kick/companion)...the antagonist is actually more of an anti hero type, he's interesting, well developed, unlike the "muahaha, I'm evil and gonna murder you for no particular reason" types that you see in some of the lame shounens. Plus his plan for revenge is pretty cool, and nice plot twist)...I really enjoyed it. Manga has 8.7 rating, so seems it's also as good as the anime.

If I think of anymore I'll post, hopefully a few of those can keep you busy for awhile. biggrin (sorry, guess I wrote quite a bit there! but I like it when ppl. give their opinions on recommendations)

You can also check the "revenge" tag.

Just saw the part in your criteria "dies midway through and forms stronger team" I don't think most of mine match that exactly. But they are all on the revenge thing, and feature dying and violence. But I still think you will like most of them if you haven't read them already.
