Relationship rocked by a sudden change in relative status

Don't really know the best way to describe this, but I'm wondering if there are any good stories where two people have an existing relationship, and that relationship is severely affected by one person's sudden major change in social status or rights relative to the other. Like, perhaps one is suddenly elevated to a status so high that the other, and pretty much everyone else, is unable to say anything against him/her. Or perhaps the other is suddenly lowered to a point where they have few rights. This can be societal, legal or even universal.
For instance, Isuca has the last of these: Sakuya is an exorcist of sorts, and her love interest and MC Shinichirou is a man with the power to perceive the "true name" of any supernatural being that touches his lips. This true name makes the being unable to disobey any order made by the first to utter it, and unfortunately Shinichirou accidentally says Sakuya's true name after being forced to kiss her, leaving her powerless to disobey him. What I'm looking for is mainly a look at the way a change of personal and interpersonal status and rights affects people, how a person handles his/her friend/lover suddenly having this new status that either demands obedience or invites harassment, how said friend handles suddenly finding his/her own status changing, and how the pair deal with the fact that technically one of them has a great deal of power/authority over the other, even if the person would never use it and would instead dedicate a great deal of effort to regaining the former equal footing.
