Ch 550; shocking truth!!!

Well, that was a good chapter.
One Piece is so unique because the author is very good at hiding his cards. Unlike many other works, One Piece is very slow at revealing information that might affect the entire storyline.
Usually, shounen mangas lose their appeal once most of the mysteries surrounding the main characters have be revealed. After that happens, the author, in an effort to prolong the series, has no other choice but to continuously "add more power". Guy learns powerful move, more powerful people appear, more powerful moves, more powerful people, and that's where the series dies.
But OP doesn't do that. And that's why when we learn something important about the main characters (like in this chapter), we are so impressed and get so excited.
Finally, about this week's chapter, well, I also like Lightmare's theory about Gol and Dragon being brothers. However, as was pointed out, there is the annoyance with the names that somehow makes that outcome unlikely in my opinion.
That's why I'd like to throw this out there: what if the "D" isn't really about family relation? Maybe there is a larger meaning to it, something that connects all these characters to the lost civilization from centuries before, to the truth behind the lost century that Robin is researching?
If that is the case, then Ace and Luffy wouldn't actually biologically related. Instead, they were simply raised as brothers, which in my opinion, is a very plausible possibility. Roger asks Garp to take care of his child; Garp obviously agrees and sends that child to East Blue, to be raised my Luffy's mother (Garp's daughter or daughter-in-law, because I don't believe it is actually explicitly said that Garp is Dragon's father).
All in all, a lot more excitement is sure to follow.

what an exciting chapter this week...i guess last week's break has paid off...
aaa! holy shit!
does this mean that there is a possibility that Dragon is Roger?
sorry if someone mentioned this before
too lazy to read the whole thread

I will not say its impossible since its one piece but base on the story so far the probability of dragon = roger is very very very very very very small because why ask Garp to take care of his son if he is gonna be dragon, he can just look after ace after faking his death.

we all know that Dragon is the single greatest threat to the world government and there is a possibility that he didnt want Ace caught up in that
i mean, he did ditch Luffy and that is under the probable assumption that he is his father
but now we must consider who Garp really is, what the Will of D really is (is it a bloodline?), and why Luffy and Ace share such similar character traits IF they are not true broski

It was really surprising. However, any thoughts on Roger and Dragon being related seems very unlikely to me. Near the end of the chapter,
Garp had a small flashback about talking to Roger about his son. I think Garp decided to adopt Ace for his respect for Roger.
When I was reading the chapter, something struck me as strange.
When the Shichibukai were lined up on that two page spread, are they talking to midgets are something? The Navy guys are half the size of Hancock and Mihawk when we clearly saw those two to be normal size. Maybe they are using Haki or something like that..
umm somehow roger is related to garp just like the other poster says
or roger and dragon are brothers
or because of the mysterious Will of D
well this all option doesn't have a concrete evidence just an assumption

i doubt dragon and roger are brother, sure i have no real proof to this other then assumptions, but to me roger seems to be a respected friend/rival. if they are related maybe roger and garp are brothers or cousins but father and son seem off a bit

mm, yes i guess ur right, I guess i got ahead of myself.
And about Roger and dragon being the same person is impossible,
after all he was publicly executed.
But OP;s storyline is epic
If you want to succeed
Then you don't need Good Luck
You need the ability to overcome Bad Luck
Happines and Light needs a source to exist
Hatred fuels itself and Darkness exist where there is no Light

..I was in total shock when I first read the spoilies.
Then, witnessing the events..the intense atmosphere in Marineford..and reading the actual "HE IS YOUR FATHER" truth..keeps giving me the feeling of how an "EPIC" chapter really is.
P.S. I'm loving Hancock's new battle outfit. And I'm kinda SHOCKED to see Rouge's silhoutte! She seems like a normal *Malibu-Girl-next-door- * type with that huge flower on her head! 😲 >:-(

well reileigh did tell us that roger was terminally ill and was going to die anyways, and that was why he let himself be caught by the navy, so i think we can be sure roger is most likely dead.

Wait.... I thought we already knew Ace was Rogers son?

If you havn't read this before, it's pretty interesting.

And I agree with everyone, this chapter was amazing, what a mind-blowing plot twist, and even though no one saw it coming, the opening was there the whole time. So awesome.

no from all the previous hints a lot of us assumed he was luffy's blood related brother therefore dragon's son not roger's.
its funny thier was a time where i believed Ace wasn't actually blood related to luffy (in the sense they had different mother and father) then i started to believe they were half-brothers (from ace's flashback we could asume his mother died but that wouldn't explain how luffy was born), then oda comes along and fricing destroys us with ace being rogers sub. Good god i love how i cant predict what will happen in this series.
