Now I'm confused 😕
In Lent you are supposed to give up things you like but are bad for you or things you like and are good for you or being good for you or not isn't the point, the intention is to deprive yourself from something you like to mourn Jesus death?
If it's the first one...I wouldn't give them up,
1- I don't think they are bad to me in any way.
2- Even if they were bad I think there is nothing to gain by giving them up. I would be back reading when the time expired. For the second one I would give them up.
For the third one I wouldn't because I'm a spiritualist, so I don't think Jesus death is something to mourn over.
Quote from NightSwan
I don't think those are considered bad things in themselves, but according to Christianity, it's sinful to indulge too much. Or something like that.
This is Catholicism, not Christianity.
It's to reflect on Jesus fasting in the desert for 40 days. So for Lent you're just building your personal discipline and remembering the actions of Jesus.
Most people choose to give something up that's bad for them that they enjoy, because they see it as a way to improve themselves physically, as well. However, you only need to give up something you enjoy, because you're simply doing a "mini-fast", and the self-discipline is more important from the religious perspective than the personal improvement.
And no, I wouldn't give up manga for lent. Although I like it, such a fast would probably cause me to do a manga binge at the end during which I'd try to catch up on everything I'd missed, and I'm not sure that is really self-discipline so much as patience, since I'm still doing the same thing for the same amount of time, just at a later date.
Hummm, Now I get it. Thanks
Then I probably would give them...It's not like it will do me any bad
I would not give manga up for anything, let alone a tradition I do not observe.

Woo, it got chosen! 😀
And Yes, I gave up managa for lent. Thus the reason for the poll. 🙂 It's really difficult, though! I dunno how much longer I can keep this up. I hope I can make it all the way through lent!
Wooo! x0mbiec0rp is correct. I'm happy someone at least understands. 😀

I actually gave up manga for lent one year. It wasn't too terrible. It was nice to get it back when it was over though ;D
