Actually, I have given up manga for Lent before. I think it was two years ago, or maybe it was three. Anyway, my idea was that it uses up a lot of my time, and if I gave it up for a while, I could use that time for other things that I've been meaning to do. It takes an actual event like Lent to get me to go through with ideas like that, by the way. Anyway, I think it was a good experience, to remind me what it's like to give up something precious and to practice self-control.

Agreed. I gave it up once for Lent a few years ago, and it was a pretty good experience, actually. I tend to spend, oh, 5 to 15 hours a week reading manga, depending on what else is going on in my life (and how willing I am to stay up into the early hours so I can read that just one more chapter -- which invariably turns out to be just twenty more chapters). So I had a lot more time to do other things -- not religious things necessarily, but like helping my mother with the housework, doing extra-curricular studying, going outside ... I'll probably do it again sometime.

"I could give that up, but I don't celebrate Lent"

While I'm typing this though, I'm wondering if this counts toward anime/manga.

(Even though the quote above is from Hamlet, I first saw it in a Final Fantasy Versus XIII trailer on YouTube ^o^)
