I'm asking for this because without certain details being there for releases, my filters don't work. ;_;

For example I have filtered out hentai, but if I look at the Releases list right now I'll find hentai titles anyway, like "Wet and Hard Saki Sensei" which I'm pretty SURE is hentai, lol, even though I can't click on it for more info (and don't want to!).

Solution?

Allow filtering of GROUPS. So at least I can filter out groups that I know are hentai groups, even if they neglect to actually tag their releases as hentai. So once something like "Wet and Hard Saki Sensei" shows up on my Releases list, I'll immediately filter out the group responsible for it and won't see their releases ever again. Of course, what's potentially wrong with this system is that some groups might do hentai AND non-hentai manga, so I'll be in a dilemma about whether to filter them out or not!

OR (and I prefer this)...

Make it necessary for groups to genre-tag their releases.

Actually it would be great if it was necessary for groups to add a summary AND a genre AND a cover (or some sort of sample image) to a new manga, if not to every new release of that manga. Not just to help me filter out the hentai genre, lol, but even for normal non-hentai manga... It would just be nice to actually be able to click on a release and read a summary for it. Nothing turns me away from a manga quicker than a complete lack of info about the summary or the cover or even the genre. o_O; I mean why would I bother going and downloading a release if I didn't even know what it was? Doesn't that actually take away from the scanlation group's hard work as well, if ppl are less willing to read their release?

So yeah, maybe B-U could consider making certain details compulsory for every new manga. 😃

I'd love it if the following things were compulsory for any group adding a new title:

  • summary: at least 25 characaters? Lol, that's enough for: "A manga about a murderer."
  • genre: at least 1 main genre, so we can filter it out if we want to (in my case, if it's hentai)
  • cover: so we know something about the art (lol, we DO judge books by their covers)

DEFINITELY at least the genre! If that were compulsory, at least my filtering would work right.

bows

Thank you for listening, and for continuing to maintain and improve on such an awesome site. 🙂

I think it'd be fine if those weren't "phantom links" in the releases page. Even if I read those releases, I can't add them to my lists, and even if I know somethings hentai, I can't go ahead and add a few genres or edit the series in any way.

Compulsory details is a bad idea because it would make releases added to MU slower or not added at all.

I'm not for this.

I admit it's annoying, but releases are precious. And some dedicated souls might add some information to it one month, six months or even years later... it doesn't matter! D:< Also, did you know you can't add doujinshi without there being a release in the database? So, it's actually useful, you see! Since it annoys me when my additions get rejected, because there's no release in the database. ;-; And I'm too lazy to add releases, lol.

Just ignore it. There aren't even that many.

You could easily remember the main Hentai groups like SaHa, desudesu, Little White Butterflies and so on. Rarely, they even release non-Hentai manga like Kodomo no Jikan by SaHa (granted, it is kinda dubious in content).

I agree it is annoying, but that would make things slower.

This is what I disagree on. You do know that any register user is allowed to add releases right? So this really isn't a group's fault, is people who either don't have enough info (i.e, summary, cover...), or are too lazy to add everything. O_O

I'm not saying groups don't add their own releases, because some do, but demanding that they have to meet some type of criteria for their releases to be added to the database when just about anyone is allowed to add said releases, seems...@__@

That would be nice. How do people edit those anyway? Or are only admins allowed to do so~ O-o

Okay, so I just added a "series request" for each Hentai release (that hasn't had a series page yet) in the last three days. Hope that satisfies your needs. And since it's not a lot, I'm sure I can keep it up.

Just so you know, "Wet and Hard Sensei" has nice art and in full-color. 😮

I was going to say I disagree, but actually this is not a bad idea ...other than making it the group's responsibility.

As BaeSooky had pointed out, any registered user can report a release to MU. Groups are not obliged to report their releases to MU. Some groups can't even be bothered with MU.

Anyway, you can always visit the group's website first before downloading the manga. Granted, you might see something you don't like on their sites, but that'll only make you remember them better so you know to avoid their releases in the future. I personally spend more time visiting scanlation sites (and having a good laugh at their stupid scanlation fights) than actually reading their releases. You're already getting the scanlations for free, you can't be too stingy with your visits. 😛

I've added hentai as series before just to get it to show up on my filters, but I'm wondering if one of the problems may be the funky/obscure policy that says that one shots can't have their own series page, which seems to have gone away now that I looked the FAQ again. Man do policies change.

You could just ask for updater status and then take care of it on your own.

I have the same "problem" with hentai releases showing up when I've got them filtered, but for my part I just enjoy reading the hilarious titles and shaking my head. The latest one: Dokidoki Unchi Party. 🤢 ewwwww . Seeing the name of release doesn't bother me, and nobody's forcing me to actually read the manga, so it's all good.

On first hand, it sounds like such a good idea but on second thought, perhaps not.

1 possibility: Because some series get shifted from 1 magazine to another, so the genres can change from say... seinen to shounen or shoujo to josei.

Another possibility: Wrong classification of genres, especially if you don't even know which magazine the manga was published in and assume straight away that it's say... josei instead of seinen. Or that it's hentai instead of say... yuri published in some magazine targetted at heterosexual/lesbian women.

And I'd like to think that many scanlators are very busy working on project selection/coordination, releases, etc., so they don't have time to watch out for tiny details like these. It would be really nice to find staff members who have the time and energy to do all these things but unfortunately, not.

In fact, sometimes... the releases are added not by the group but by their readers, especially if it's a "1 to 2 man" group. And the details of the projects are filled in or refined by others like genre/category information.

Another thing too: many groups are multi-genre, multi-categories. Allowing people to block them, based on genres, would probably lead to a lot of complaints, especially if say... their favourite josei group decides to do seinen or some other genre.

I've sympathy for your position but let's look at it this way, almost everyone who uses Baka-updates also goes through the same thing. I don't enjoy reading most shoujo but nonetheless, I still have to blunder through most of it. I'm quite sure the same goes for those who can't stand majority of BL or some other genre.
