Description
Daisuke is a 23 year-old new schoolteacher. He ends up being put in charge of a 3rd grade elementary school class since the previous teacher quit, and in that class there's a girl who's quite a troublemaker--Rin Kokonoe. You could call her a masegaki (used to describe a kid that acts more like an adult in some ways), and she's also part tsundere (though more dere than tsun).

I was really impressed with this manga. Excellent story and char development, kept me entertained with funny jokes and play on words, but also with a much deeper meaning behind it all. Don't let the negative comments dissuade you, you will be missing out on an excellent manga. I can't say it enough, I had a lot of fun with this one.

It really makes me sad how some people can't understand this manga.
It doesn't talk about a pedo, it's about a girl with emotional problems, a really sad home situation without proper family love. Starving for attention she comes to love her teacher, a sensible grown up man who of course is not a pedo so he would never dare or want to do any of the thinks this confused girl proposes. He does what the girl needs, not what the girl ask for.
On the other hand he doesn't report the girl behaviour or send her to a doctor humilliating her, cause he feels she is crying for affection, he is sensitive enough to acknowledge something strange must happen in the child home so to not shatter the already wounded heart of this child he undergoes through a hellish situation to help her. He tries desperatly to give her some comfort which the girl is lacking, if i say anything more i would spoil, he doesn't take the easy way of disposse of the child in a burocratical acceptable easy way, he sacrifice himself for her shake.

One of the worst thinks about this society is the fact that normally we are not treated individually in the way we need, i prefer this teacher than the cold society. Most of people with problems at home undergo their schoollife with no adults really caring for them. If this teacher cross the line.. i wouldn't read this anymore of course, but i know that wont happen cause this manga is about love, the good one, is not egoistical sexual lustfull desire, it's about "sacrifice yourself for the shake of others"....where did i hear about that before?

I believe that whoever finds this manga dirty it's probably because he himself has dirt in the eyes.

Reading the comments of some put off by the theme, It seems that apparently elementary teachers never get tempted, and kids don't experiment with their bodies.

A daring theme in this manga indeed. Somehow I'm getting the vibe that the teacher will turn into a full blown pedo and get jailed after. It would definitely be interesting to see if the apparently 'pure motives' of the teacher get twisted after repeated seduction attempts. Then again, I've read far enough to realize the author is going on a roundabout way of explaining love, not sexual love, but love for a fellow human being/child.

It also deals with the question:
Where is the line of showing affection for a child begin and when does it begin to be considered over the top? Will hugs be considered an act of sexual harrasment? If the kid kisses the teacher innocently, must it be a 'dirty' act? Will dads be barred from hugging their daughters or mothers from hugging their sons because it may invoke feelings of passion? Just because there are a few pedophiles who can't differentiate between mature love and child love, we should henceforth ban all kinds of contact between genders just because they 'may' lead to promiscuity?

In this story, the kids are growing into pubescence, and are having crushes on the teacher/each other, coupled with the fact that they started finding out about sex from various sources, and are still unclear about what's acceptable and what is not.

The adults are trying to set a better example, but are also ridden with the problem of how to explain 'love' to children, and how that it doesn't necessarily involve sex, when it's a love between parent and child, or love between a child and a mentor (in this case, the teacher)

The author being a woman, and most of the readers don't get the point of the story, but lambasts it because it shows sexy kids, which shouldn't necessarily provoke any sort of sexual response or embarassment in the first place, unless they are tempted themselves. What next? Dads can't change diapers for their infant daughter because it involves the dad touching/seeing female genetalia upclose? *facepalm*

Maybe its cause I'm from North America and in NA everything about this manga screams Taboo. But its interesting to see a situation that could not and should not ever happen. Though it would be nice to not have to see little girls pose nude every other page

people get turned off by the sole idea its love between a 3rd grader and a 23 year old. western society say "loli can influence paedophilia" yet they mass produce movies with sex scenes where we can also argue "sex can influence rapists". be open minded and you might understand from this manga that society has a biased view on some meaningful produce.

To quote encyclopedia dramatica: "Kodomo no Jikan (translation: "A Child's Time") is a spank-fest followed religiously by the likes of "respectable gentlemen" who lurk on 4chan, parading itself around as a proper anime and manga series."

Now it is even banned on tvtroes and a porn-scanlation group scanlates it.
I am not saying that it should be prohibited from publishing (freedom of speech and so on) but come on, which sane editor sanctioned this ? The ending is also incredibly fucked up. That is all. Read Berserk, that one is good.

Do not listen to the haters, this is a well put together story far from the best but is pretty damn good however the subject matter is not for everyone and its only for those that can keep a mind mind about it, Most of the low raters, do not like the content and are just proving to be arrogant do not follow their flow, like I said this is not for everyone but its still a pretty deceit story even with the loli content and ecchi.

The relationship between the male protagonist and the girls reminds me of Zettai Karen Children(recommended), where both guys are sort of a father figure and trying to help them become proper adults, while trying not to fall in love with one of them, and fending off a pervert. Actually they could be carbon copies. the story itself is pretty good, i half expected this to turn into a bad hentai. But it deals more with the emotional aspect than just the physical. Also glad they didnt turn reiji into some fullblown nutjob, hes a bit twisted but just needs a guiding hand like kokonoe. Definitely looking forward to see how this ends. For now I give it a 7, and an 8 if it has a solid ending

Cute Story, Still Sickening, Don't read it.

I found out about Kodomo no Jikan through tvtropes, when I was browsing the website one bored summer day. I'm not into lolicon, and I thought that the series was more like a gag comedy with tons of fanservice and dick jokes. And for a while, that's what it was. So at first, I thought that it was funny....then sickening....then interesting....and then sickening. The first couple of volumes didn't really have a story, and it was mostly just overly detailed loli pics of a bunch little, little girls in disturbingly sexual situations. *Disturbingly*. But I kept reading on recommendations that it "gets better". There's "character development" and the story "comes together". And they were right, it does.

And it was horrifying. I understand that this is a "love" story, but it's not cute or touching or anything like that. Think about it. Throughout the entire manga series, Rin Kokonoe goes about doing things like pulling her panties down and making references to her teacher's dick, putting phallic symbols in her mouth, forcing her teacher to touch her sexually, making references to his sex life, etc etc. Dear god, she's NOT EVEN A TEENAGER. And what's worse is that instead of her teacher reporting her IMMEDIATELY, he simply GOES ALONG WITH IT, on the pretense that he's "trying to help her". He might reject to her actions and pretend to not like them, but he simply allows her to continue sexually harassing him. What the actual fuck? If he wants to help his student, he needs to report her and have her checked out by a child psychiatrist. He needs to talk to the other students and faculty about her behavior. He should have stopped that shit from day ONE.

And it gets "worse". He actually admits in the later volumes that he's "fallen in love with her". With his 9 or so year old grade student. And then starts spewing some bullshit that he fell in love with her because of "who she is" and not her "Age" which means that he's not a pedophile. That's how he rationalizes his feelings for a 9 year old girl. Because apparently, Rin, at 9 years old, has such a stunning personality (never mind her tendency to act like a desperate whore) that he can look past her tiny age and body.....and then the next couple of pages will feature pictures of Rin in very sexual situations, for the sake of fanservice. What the shit.

TL;DR, Don't read it. Seriously. It's just softcore porn and a stupid and fake relationship between a little girl and her 20 something teacher who ends up falling in love with her.

Unexpectedly literary

Don't get me wrong; the main story is good and worth the read but alone, gets only a seven from me. It's how he weaves the romance between the four teachers into the lives of the students that makes me give this a nine. It is a wonderfully captivating story that focuses on the psychology of each major character and blends them beautifully. The reason this doesen't have a ten from me is because the story is so good that I HATE how he takes breaks for fan-service. It feels like watching the greatest movie ever but with a distracting person in front of you. Most of the fan-service actually does blend well and have it's place, but there are those few uncalled for moments. Overall, this is a fantastic manga that any boy or girl of the appropriate age should should consider reading.
