Oh, one of my favorite genres. 4-koma are manga told in comic strip format, generally in four panels. A manga in this style will consist entirely of these strips. Usually very dialogue heavy, 4-koma are generally comedies that are composed of short stories (a few strips will focus on one topic and the next strips will focus on something entirely different). Think of old newspaper comics.

4-koma (a.k.a yonkoma) is like told a comical manga told in comic strips. there are short storys told in four pictures. the last pic has either a punchline or another way to solve the gag. there are manga completly written in 4-koma with some normal pages (e.g.: azumanga daioh and normal manga which use 4koma as omake like Full Metal Alchemist and The world god only knows. Yonkoma always contain comedy, but it appears more often in shounen and seinen
examples for yonkoma are this and this <- my favorite 4koma page
