No, OP is right as far as I'm concerned...........I'm not saying I entirely support the whole "spoilers" point here (as in this is going to happen on just each and every title), or that it's necessarily anything to get, you know, too worked up about......but yeah, I've always ...
that aka a couple/romance might be showed on the newest cover is the only reason I can think of how it might spoil the story, other than that - no new covers have ever spoiled me for manga's that I have yet to catch up with cuz even if they show new characters or smt...that's not really spoiling anything, of course there will be new characters!
and it's true that as time goes by the artists usually develop their style (especially if the manga is a longer one and started years ago) and thus while the beginning style might put some readers off, the later style might appeal to them and so they'll read it, therefore in this case it's a win to show the newest cover.
aside from romance stuff, covers do not really spoil anything, they just show the characters in new pose, clothing, etc

It's not just for romance manga this applies to mystery/tragedy/adventure manga as well
imagine if some of the main characters are missing in the latest volume cover you will think they will die while reading the manga or when they show new characters that will not appear until last volume
if you are reading shounen manga this doesn't affect you most of the time because they will not kill their characters but when its seinen or tragedy manga the cover will hit you like a train
when finding new manga you will look for the genre you want and then read the description while take a glimpse at the cover to know how the main characters look when the manga started not to look at the new characters that appeared in its climax
iam not against updating the covers to attract some readers but they will not like his style when the manga started which doesn't make any sense, description and genre is enough to make you read the manga, don't judge the manga from it's cover but if the cover spoils
the damage cant be undone

Ah well, as I said, I support the OP on this.......don't think it's anything to lose one's cool over, don't think it's viable/feasible to go around changing every cover image on this or any other site.....but yeah, I've always felt it was best to keep the images as an older one to avoid any possible spoilers.
Hey, let's face it, reading manga like we do is a hobby, it's only natural for people who have a hobby to, you know, tell other people how cool it is and tell them they should get into it too......yeah, only to have them go, as a new reader, to a page and get spoiled right off the bat because somebody thought volume 37 had a cool cover and just eeeeverybody would want that one there and just eeeeverybody had read up to that point just like them. See where I'm coming from?
Yeah, OP is right, if they've got a complaint about some specific titles and cover images they should be taken seriously and have their complaints looked at. I mean, c'mon, we all know pages get locked around here over just this sort of thing already, right?

I'm personally of the opinion that a series's cover image should be the first tanko that goes for sale. I don't think it should be updated every time the newest volume goes for sale.
