First of all im a guy. However i have read most of the good shounen mangas so i have decided to read shoujo mangas. That said i prefer these type of romance.

  1. hot and steamy romance (though that seems rare)

  2. couples that actually flirt back.

  3. good romance with something else, like drama or psychological.

  4. a simply awesome shoujo manga (awesome, not good)

I don't really care if its smut or not. Thanks for answering.

I suggest you read something by Osakabe Mashin
Her stories are full of steamy romance, drama and there is also the psychological topic, although her art is quite unique so you may not like it.

I remember there are some guys who read far more shoujo than I do on this forum. Hope they will help you.

What's hot and steamy is subjective. I think you'd better look for that in hentai or perhaps seinen romance ecchi.

I would recommend Paradise Kiss and Nana for good drama, and Yoshihara Yuki's works for smut + good comedy (you could start from the short ones XD). And I would suggest searching in josei for good drama/romance/psychological/ instead of shoujo. Example: Fetish and MIHARA Mitsukazu's works. I recommend Shigeshoushi (not much romance, mostly side characters'). The protagonist is a guy.

For shoujo, if you don't mind historical and fantasy, you could try Red River and Cipher. They have cultural/historical aspects, so it's not just romance.

Like on another post I say Basara. Really good manga/anime. Then there is Faster Than A Kiss. So many shoujo manga to list. I don't really remember any of the ones I've read but those two, I'll tell you more when I can think of any.

I'd start to read seinen if I were in you 😀 , but anyway my fav shoujo:
Kodocha
Aishiteruze Baby
Crossroad
ES not a shoujo, but...
Vampire Game
Milk Crown if you don't mind something that doesn't make sense at all.
