Holy hell I'm excited! Do you know if it's still the original story, or a new one?

That "new" part is troubling me. As far as I can tell, it can be one of three things:
- a new adaptation of the original manga
- a continuation of the series (maybe around the time in the epilogue Yahiko inherits Kenshin's sakabato)
- same characters but a completely new series as far as the plot is involved.
I'm honestly hoping its a continuation as long as Nobuhiro Watsuki is involved.

As much as i like RK, I don't know what else they want to animate. Maybe if they do a lifting a la FMA:B to get the manga ending. If they just decide to continue from the OVA, not sure i'd want that.

I hope they properly animate the jinchou arc. The OVAs did NOT do it justice.

Let's hope its not a remake or with totally new characters! New plots with same characters would be awesome! Maybe now my favorite couple (SanoMeg) might become a reality xD

I am pretty sure they will do a remake based on original manga from beginning to an end, possibly avoiding last OVA's ending (which was not only super sad but supremely confusing) and retelling first OVA to fit TV anime profile (perhaps with couple of comedy moments and such or at very least a bit more slowly).
The remake of old anime by being faithful to manga and avoiding fillers is all the rage now - witness the crazy success of FMA:B and DBKai!
There is no new manga plotlines other then couple of gaiden's since manga ended its run, if they create "new" anime based of "new" non-manga material it will be pure filler - which they already done before since TV eps 65 till 95/ end were all filler! I will not be watching another season's worth of filler! At least before they had an excuse, anime overtook manga and it was too long a break to continue with fillers. Now, no excuse.
If anime been announced as in development - do you think it will be ready to air by Fall 2011 or only next spring?!

afaik there is no news on how they are going to do it but if anything im hoping that they would do a remake following the manga to the end using the current techonogy...meaning better animation and flashier fight scenes 😀

updated more information and pics.
Yeah, I heard about it. They want to bring the new generation up to speed by reanimating the Kyoto arc, but it would suck if they mess up the character designs like the previous OAV's did, & I hope they don't rely too much on that 3D crap.
Also, it is not going to be the same since Saitou Hajime's seiyuu is dead, & they have to replace him. 🙁

I just hope that it will be good so that i don't drop it like i did with the Hunter x Hunter anime remake.

So you don't like it when anime stays true to the manga?
