personally, i think that if being nice doesn't work, forceful comments like that would have to do too lol.

but at the same time you don't want to frighten/offend members, especially the lil children out there... (despite there not being anyone under 13 according to the polls cough cough... ahem?)

    It doesn't have to be an evil mean thing. Have a link called "download problems", or "how to download" or something like that. And by clicking on the link you get something like this:" the reason you are having problems downloading is because you can't Other than the quicklinks next to new releases, ........ bla bla. We are an information site that bla bla bla.

                 Being evil would be fun though. maybe a little bit? ( big eyed doggy look )

as bully_jesus said, how about creating a "how to dl" thread to explain that we are not a dl site or actually direct people to dl (for those kind people who may wish to help)
unless you're against the helping them to dl in such an easy effortless manner

of course idea backfires to those who are too lazy (meant to offend >=) to search for the thread and also for those who are too noob (not meant to be offensive ^^😉 to find the thread

doesn't really have to be a mean message, just a strong one. whether it be by its size or wording.

People tend to ask for help before looking up what's already there themselves though, so anything too long won't work, statistics for ads and such go somewhere along 3 seconds a look-over, and after those 3 seconds are done, it either gets through or doesn't. So something short and to the point is best.

How about a score board?
We have a pinned thread, and everybody somebody finds out somebody asked how to download we add a marker. Like the way air plains in WWII would mark how many dogfights they won? Then when we are all 90 or dead we can say: "2000312403 Idiots asked how to download"

bully_jesus, I agree to ur idea. Its kinda funny if there's a large scoreboard like that, with another caption:

"Sorry, we don't have direct downloads. etc...etc..."

That way, people's attention can be caught and they'll see the notice caption, hopefully.

Well, you could always add a "How to DL" somewhere on the right side (the one with the MANGA Fu and that) and in there do the idea that SiLNeT suggested, and all the while have a counter that counts how many unique visitors check that page.
